Ky Maxwell is a PR guy who’s desperate for work. When his cushy movie studio job disappears, he tries everything to find new employment until his former boss takes pity on him and refers him to a major movie studio about to go into production on a huge sci-fi trilogy.
Ky’s excited about the project until his prospective employer, Lisa Bird, insists she needs to do an astrological chart of Ky and a psychic reading as part of the interview. His crazy maybe-boss predicts a new man coming into Ky’s life. This new man will have a fire sign, she claims, is probably a Leo, his first name will start with a “T,” and he will be in his early 30s.
Ky, however, couldn’t be less interested in her prediction. He needs work, and love won’t pay the bills. Unfortunately, Ky doesn’t get the job because Lisa believes he isn’t a team player and because their stars are out of alignment. That would be fine, except that the reading she gave him proves to be frighteningly accurate.
Soon, Ky has no idea which of the two wonderful new guys he meets is his “forever man.” How can he choose? Or will they, too, vanish as fast as Ky’s last paycheck?
REVIEW:
This is a fun book, it offers everything that I love it a story. It is witty, clever, and a delightful story. I found that I really cared about the characters. Ky is great at his job and he goes about it the right way. He has a special gift for treating people well and fairly in a business that usually chews people up and spits them out. He loses his job but because of those connections and his reputation, he has genuine friends to fall back on.
He is up for a job that requires him to get a psychic reading as part of the screening process with the boss, Lisa Bird. She is a great aficionado of the metaphysical arts. She offers good news and bad. She offers news of his love life but he is not interested in that at all unfortunately, because that was the good news. The bad news is that his stars are not right for the project. Lisa gives him very specific information of who the man she saw Ky with will be. Ky tucks it in the back of his mind.
Now, in addition to looking for work, he takes mental notes on every man he meets to see if they meet Lisa’s specific criteria. He wanted to totally blow it off but too much of what she predicted was too accurate to ignore. His best friend and his love live in Tijuana. They talk him into making a visit. The visit offers some potential job opportunities but he also meets a man who takes his breath away.
I love how the story unfolds and the way that we get to know Ky and his friends. It is refreshing to see a man who clearly lives a life that many dream of including knowing many famous people, but these things mean very little to him. He is a down to earth guy. I love stories that show that nice guys do not finish last, people do get second chances, and sometimes the things that we need and desire the most come and find us when we least expect them.
Ky is not sure which man is going to be Mr. Right and the process is fun to watch as there are several who have potential. Even though Ky is looking, he is not desperate, clingy, or needy. Ky is a whole person and not looking for a man to complete him or fix him. I love that when he does find his Mr. Right that it all falls into place naturally, with sweet innocence. The magic of this story is that I was more interested in the love story than Ky’s famous friends or Ky’s impressive home and possessions. Ky cared more about love too and that is what makes him so special. Those are the qualities make this book worth your time to read.
