TITLE: Death’s Ink Black Shadow
SERIES: More Heat Than The Sun #6
AUTHOR: John Wiltshire
PUBLISHER: MLR Press
LENGTH: 239 pages
BLURB:
It takes a certain kind of courage to live as if favoured by the gods, ignoring the ever-present ghosts of your past—or perhaps not bravery, but arrogance. And maybe not even that. Ben genuinely believes that the past is behind them—that they deserve to enjoy the life they have created. So it’s not hubris that leads him to overlook the signs that Nikolas does not share his faith, it’s love. But Nikolas knows something is coming. He can’t stop it; he can only decide how he will choose to face it. And without Ben’s support, he is entirely alone.
REVIEW:
Nikolas and Benjamin are without a doubt one of my top 5 couples in this genre, maybe every genre. This 6th installment was jam packed full of violence, suspense, intrigue, mystery, death, and destruction. What I find absolutely amazing, however, is while all these suspenseful things are happening this author is still able to bring it all back to Nikolas and Benjamin and this crazy, amazing, powerful love connection they have.
A lot of times with series like these that are on going the drama and plot can come off as contrived. But to me, knowing Nikolas and Benjamin’s unbelievable past all of the scenarios laid out for us seem completely plausible and I was thoroughly involved from the beginning the the end. I love how John Wiltshire writes and develops these stories.
In this installment Ben and Nik are getting comfortable in their lives. Nik however is still on edge knowing the threat isn’t over. He puts on a great show for Ben making sure he feels comfortable in their lives. Nikolas is also pushing Ben to spend more time with his daughter, Molly Rose. I loved seeing Nik and Ben interact with Molly. I cringed sometimes but they were trying which was obvious.
One thing I’ve always loved about these books is Nik and Ben’s undeniable, soul deep connections. It burns so bright in this book. They lengths they will go to for each other clutches at your heart and holds on so tight.
There were several tense moments in this book. Moments when you thought to yourself, “Oh God NO” and I think that why I love this author so much because I seriously go through every single emotion reading his books.
I came by this series late in the game only about a month ago I finished book 1. I then subsequently bought the next 4 right away and just read them back to back. So when I got through with book 5 I didn’t really have to wait all that long for book 6. I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself while I wait for book 7. Benjamin and Nikolas are an addiction that runs through my veins. I can’t wait for the next one! I can’t recommend this series enough just keep in mind you won’t be able to stop but know you have 6 ridiculously amazing books to enjoy!!!
