REVIEW:
This is book 2 of the Harborside Nights series and this one is the first to contain a same sex relationship. This book I’m assuming picks up after the first book in the series, Catching Cassidy. So, not having read the first book, I was intrigued coming in and seeing these characters with fresh eyes. To see if you could come in and not feel lost from not having read the first story.
Delilah (Dee) is this young woman who came out to her parents the night she graduated from college and was met with looks of disgust from her parents. They were killed soon after and Dee is dealing with her feelings of guilt and her sexuality. Dee is having a hard time reconciling that being a lesbian isn’t anything wrong and yet, she’s had her parents tell her how wrong that is and that it’s not something that they approve of. Dee is actually a twin. Her brother, Wyatt is two minutes older and has been her protector her entire life. Dee has decided to make the change to be honest with herself and those in her life about who she is and who she chooses to love.
Ashley (Ash) is the other MC in this story. I liked Ash a lot. She is a young woman who wants to be an artist and who has a real gift for it. Ash comes from a family that holds nothing but LOVE. I used all caps as reading about them, it truly showed the love that they have for each other. Ash was in a relationship prior where the girl promised to come out and never did. She was actually playing Ash about and Ash decided that she’s worth more than being someone’s secret. She wants to be able to hold the hand of the person that she’s with and to be able to show affection without feeling like
There is a bit of sexy time in this book and I must say that it was very tastefully done. It was never explicit and it wasn’t there just to throw it in. It was to show the growth of Delilah and her awareness of herself and who she truly is.
I have to say that I enjoyed that alternating POV’s that we got from Delilah and Ashley. I really liked that it showed you how each MC was feeling and yet, it didn’t feel as if the author was just rehashing what was just read. I liked getting inside of Dee and Ash’s mind and seeing where they were coming from.
The secondary characters in this book…just WOW!! Dee’s twin, Wyatt…he’s just this really great big brother. He loves his sister so much and wants to protect her for all his worth. I love how he just worried and wanted to keep her safe. I like that he’s having to deal with the fact that Dee is wanting to stand up on her own two feet. Brandon, Tristan, Cassidy, etc…these people were so loving and supportive to our girls. Ash’s family…they are who you want for anyone to have as a family. They are such kind and truly loving people.
I have to say that this was a sweet story regarding one young woman’s journey to coming to grips with her past, present and future.
