TITLE: Dallas in Wonderland
AUTHOR: Evan Gilbert
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 88 Pages
Blurb:
Dallas Fox owns porn movie studio Wonderland and for him, sex is all about business. He hasn’t felt passion in a long time, so he is surprised when he develops an attraction for Johnny Roman, a college student who has recently become a porn actor for the studio, and Miguel Duarte, an office assistant. Dallas is even more surprised when he realizes they are as interested in him as they are in each other. Those attractions violate Dallas’s number one rule: no mixing business and pleasure.
Dallas slowly lets his guard down, and eventually winds up in bed with both Johnny and Miguel. Their painful backgrounds are similar, and they begin forging bonds that could grow into something much deeper. Miguel, however, faces a threat that could endanger them all and destroy any chance of finding the romance they want and need.
Review:
Dallas isn’t only a popular porn actor, he also runs the studio with his partners.. He’s lost his enthusiasm for the performing side of the business and his apathy is spilling over into his personal life.
Johnny is a colleague and sort of friend who’s attracted to Dallas. He’s struggling with how he feels about himself due to his religious upbringing .
Miguel is a young man who works at the studio and was abused by the people who should have loved him most. Now finds himself in a horrible situation definitely not of his own making.
I wanted to love this book, I really did. I love the hurt/comfort genre and a good threesome is always something that makes me happy. But everything about this book is so rushed. It feels like we are being told the facts in a monotone. Everything just keeps happening…bang, bang, bang…with no sense of anticipation. I could see exactly what was going to happen from beginning to end. There wasn’t one single element of surprise.
There’s nothing really bad about the book. The writing is good and the characters are likable, but there’s never really a chance for the reader to form any kind of attachment to them because of everything happening so fast.
The angst didn’t have time to tear at my heart, the joy didn’t have time to lift me with it because I didn’t care enough about what was happening to these men to get that involved.
This whole book almost feels like a really long summary of the story instead of the actual story.
However, the one sex scene between the three men is really good. Hot, intense and very well done. It’s probably the best part of the whole book, and not just because it was sex.
I really could have loved this if only I’d been given the time.
