REVIEW:

What would you do if a complete stranger (who looks kind of familiar) walked up to you and told you that you were about to make the biggest mistake of your life? That is exactly what happens to Michael Richards in this short story from Terry Kerr.

Michael is twenty-two and has just had a truly frightening incident. He was drunk and almost kissed one of his mates. What was up with that? He can’t be gay….he is a good Catholic boy…ok a good lapsed Catholic boy, but it is all the same correct?

When we meet him, he is in North Wales gazing out onto the Irish Sea wishing he were dead. But not in a suicidal way (see the Catholic comment above). He just wishes something would happen to put him out of his misery so he doesn’t have to have these complicated thoughts.

He gets his answer in the form of the strangely familiar man who seems to know everything about him and his decision.

I really enjoyed this short story. I recommend it to anyone who has ever thought, I wish I knew then what I know now. It was an entertaining read, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the anthology that it is contained in!
