TITLE: Don’t Judge
SERIES: Nothing Special, #4
AUTHOR: A.E. Via
PUBLISHER: Via Star Wings Books
LENGTH: 364 pages
BLURB:
Detective Austin Michaels didn’t think life could get any better after he was accepted into the most notorious narcotics task force on the East Coast, headed up by two of the baddest’ Lieutenants with the Atlanta Police Department – Cashel Godfrey and Leonidis Day.
Michaels knew he would fit right in as the team’s sniper, having received his fair share of commendations for marksmanship. He was just as badass as the rest of the twenty brothers that made up their team. But when Michaels lets their prime suspect get away from a huge bust with over a quarter of a million dollars in drugs, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it right.
Left with no other options, God chooses to bring in outside help, calling on his long-time friend and bounty hunter, Judge Josephson.
Judge was considered one of the best trackers during his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps. After retiring, he used those skills to become one of the most sought out fugitive trackers in the country. When Judge gets a call from his old friend needing his help, he quickly tells God, yes.
Still embarrassed, and intent to prove himself, Michaels immediately volunteers to partner up with Judge to get their suspect back quickly and quietly. Neither man wanted or needed a partner. But, after Judge and Michaels get on the road, the hate/lust relationship they quickly develop between them will either make them heroes… Or get them killed.
REVIEW:
Life should be just about perfect for Detective Austin Michaels but it’s not. He’s been accepted into Day and God’s narcotics task force with the Atlanta Police Department, and still there’s something missing. His teammates are finding their ‘one’, their partners in life as well as on the force. And still, Austin is alone he feels like a third wheel whenever the team gets together socially, he’s always on the outside looking in and he’s had enough.
The last huge bust was a bust as far as Michaels is concerned, their prime suspect has just gotten away with over a quarter of a million dollars in drugs. He takes it very seriously because he’s the team sniper and he didn’t even see him walking away! When nobody can find the suspect God decides to call in his long-time friend Judge Josephson who happens to be a bounty hunter. When Michaels hears about Judge being called in he decides to go along with him to be the ‘calming’ influence as Judge is not known for his patience or clam. Judge has no need of a partner, he has the only partner he’ll ever need, his dog Bookem! After talking to God Judge decides it will be easier to let Michaels ride along than to argue but once they’re alone on the road the animosity between the two turns into lust rather than hate!
Michaels can’t believe the huge, good-looking Judge is gay but when they have one of the hottest sexual encounters he’s had in a good long while he soon looks at him in a whole new light. Judge can’t believe Michaels is not the pampered asshole he thought he was because now he has to see him as an incredibly good-looking man who may just be who he needs to get him back to the land of the living not just existing. As the stake out continues so too does the fledgling relationship between the two incredibly stubborn men but it’s when Judge gets a phone call from his fathers’ partner that everything falls apart. He can’t believe his father is going to die from Parkinson’s disease but he does.
That’s when Judge decides that the pain is not worth it, he’d rather be alone than hurt like he does now that’s two people he loved that have died on him. The first was his life and business partner nearly twenty years ago and now his father, he doesn’t feel that he can risk his heart on Austin until everyone goes silent on the Austin front. Austin has had a complete breakdown at losing Judge, his heart has been shattered and he’s not sure he’ll ever be the same. Luckily for Judge one of Michaels’ teammates takes pity on him and gives him the address of where Austin is. I’m not giving away anything else, if you want to know what happens from here you’re going to have to buy the book! You will definitely not be disappointed!
The Nothing Special Series is the best series I’ve read in long time. Although Don’t Judge is darker with a lot more anger in the characters it fits, there is nothing gratuitous in these stories. You can see the growth and development of A.E. Via as an author with every book she writes!! I love the way all the characters from the previous books as well as the ones from the next books are all in every book so you never lose track of what’s happened or happening! I will most assuredly be recommending this book to one and all!!
