A warm welcome to author Anna Zabo , the first author to join us in the 2015 featured blog tour for GRL 2015!
We have a wonderful collection of authors visiting Love Bytes during the upcoming months toward october.
As we wanted to do something nice to connect the posts we have the authors asking one question to the next author on the blog tour and obviously answering the question that was asked to them 🙂
Welcome Anna 🙂
Things I’ve Learned from GRL
Four months until GayRomLit, and I’m already excited. I love conferences. Well, actually, I love any event where readers and writers—book people—get together and mingle and talk and share their love for words and characters. I especially love GRL because it’s all about LGBT romance. Book people, romance people and people who don’t look at me funny because I write about men falling in love with other men! It’s a bit like heaven, actually.
This year, I’m actually planning in advance. I’ve got a commission in with Catherine Dair for swag based on Justin and Eli, the main characters from my latest release, Just Business. I’m actually thinking about fancy clothing, and making plans to spend some time on the west coast before GRL so I’m not too jet-lagged to attend the evening events. Oh, and LA Witt and I are planning a Fun Fair activity. Heh. Hehehe.
But I know conferences can be really stressful for a lot of folks, me included. I’m what they call an ambivert—it’s what you get when you have traits of both an extrovert and an introvert—so I get both highs and lows out of conferences. There’s so many things and places and people and events! It can be wonderful and overwhelming.
Things I’ve learned about myself:
- Pacing! I don’t have to do everything so I usually pick a few things I absolutely want (or need) to go to…and play the rest by ear. Sometimes I’ll vanish because I just need to…come down as it were… from all the energy of being around folks. If I don’t get that time away, I can get grumpy—and no one needs that. And it’s okay to vanish for a while if you have to!
- As an author, signings are exhausting. There’s kind of a gambit of emotions you run sitting in your chair behind the table. Will people know who I am? OMG, do I have enough swag? I forgot my Sharpie! People know me!? People know me! They love my book, I’m going to cry! Wait, it’s over? It’s normal to go back to your room, flop on the bed and stare at the ceiling for a bit, whether you’re an author or a reader.
- I like meeting new people. I try to find the place where people hang out—and hang out. It’s a great way to meet people and quite often you can see all of GRL go by. It also can take the edge off feeling like you have to be everywhere at once. And if that hangout is the bar—remember you don’t have to drink! Not everyone does. If it’s not evening, chances are I’m sipping water.
- Oh yeah, eating. Inevitably, there’s a day where I realize I haven’t eaten anything. Or I’ve had only coffee—which is not food no matter what I might try to tell you. It helps to have a con buddy to ask you those important questions like: Do you want dinner? ‘Cause dinner is usually a good idea. Especially when it’s also breakfast and lunch…
So when you see me at GRL, say hi and ask if I’ve had something other than coffee today. And I’d like to ask: what’s your number one piece of advice for GRL?
We started of and send the first Question to Anna ourselves :
What is one thing on your ‘nope’ list that you think you could manage to write, and what could you never write no matter what?
Anna Zabo writes contemporary and paranormal romance for all colors of the rainbow. She lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which isn’t nearly as boring as most people think.

My first book was by Josh Lanyon.
I think this sounds like a great story, adding it to my TBR list.
I’ve not been to GRL or anything like it so cant offer advice – but your idea of a con buddy to check that food has been eaten, or the vital seminar attended, sounds a great plan!!
I’ve been waiting for this book since I read Takeover. Thanks for the giveaway!
A friend keeps recommending this series to me! As for what to take to GRL–sounds like you should pack some granola bars for energy! 🙂 Congrats on the new release.
I know you’ll have an amazing time! I read a lot of slash fic first, but I think my first official m/m was BETWEEN SINNERS AND SAINTS by Marie Sexton.
I really want to attend GRL one of these years. Although I know I”ll be exhausted once it’s over, it would be so great to meet the authors and other readers as well as the bloggers. Thank you for the giveaway chance! I love finding new authors and this book looks amazing.
I love mpreg so if you want to give it a try I wouldn’t mind at all, lol =) Great cover and it sounds really good. Thank you for the giveaway chance!

New to me author and looking forward to reading your books. Congrats on your newest release!
I can’t wait to meet everyone at GRL!
I’m not going to GRL and I can it shows so fun, exciting and exhausting.
You often don’t realise that these sort of events are just as daunting to the authors as well as those attending (i.e. the readers), so when I finally take the brave step and go to one, I will make sure and check the authors have eaten as well taken their requisite cups of coffee 🙂 I am pretty fond of Anna’s paranormal story ‘Close Quarters’ and I am looking forward to its sequel. Thank you for a chance to win a copy of Just Business
Congrats Jen CW 🙂
