REVIEW:
Ashby Sterling-Haynes is a very self-confident, outgoing, incredibly rich playboy who meets local Veterinarian, Conner Lawson at his brother’s wedding. Ash is immediately attracted to Conner and can’t understand what he’s done wrong to make Conner hate him. Although Conner finds Ash attractive, he can’t stand the fact that he has the self-confidence that he himself lacks.
Ash has decided to use his summer vacation house sitting for his brother whilst he is on his honeymoon. As the youngest brother Ash isn’t going to inherit the family business, but as he has an affinity with numbers he does have an important position the only problem is, it’s not what he wants to do. As he’s trying to break through Conner’s shell and get to know him Ash is asked to help out his old mentor, making the cabinetry for a kitchen refit. Once Ash starts working with wood again he starts to doubt himself about what it is he should be doing with his life.
Conner on the other hand is having a very hard time coming to terms with the fact that Ash isn’t as bad as he first thought. Ash is actually a very warm, caring person, not the snobby, spoilt, rich boy he was expecting. When a friend of Conner’s unexpectedly offers to sell him the house he used to spend every summer in when he was growing up he knows he can’t pass up the opportunity. Conner spends every spare moment he has working on the house to make it even better than it was in his childhood.
Ash is stunned to learn that when Conner was in college he was in a relationship with a rich young man who never felt that he had to acknowledge Conner outside of the bedroom, until the day came that his “friends” found them together. He got uncontrollably angry with Conner for being gay and lashed out at him. When Conner woke up from the attack he discovered that not only had his “boyfriend” and friends bashed him to within an inch of his life they had also raped him. Because he couldn’t remember anything of the attack or rape he couldn’t press charges and therefore has never had closure on the entire episode. Luckily for Conner, Ash is incredibly supportive and gets him into counselling that helps immensely. Ash discovers that he also needs Conner’s support when he finally tells his family that he doesn’t want to work in the family business anymore. He wants to continue working and learning with his mentor until the time comes for him to retire then he wants to open his own cabinetry shop.
The Summer House is another winner for RJ Scott. It’s got all the angst, love, hate and HOT sex that you could possibly want in a romance book! I will definitely be recommending this book!!
