REVIEW:
Greg Herren’s Baton Rouge Bingo is the sixth Scotty Bradley Adventure. I’m guessing that each is a standalone, since I was able to jump right into this one without a problem, and I haven’t read any of the others yet. There were a few references to prior events, but enough explanation was given with each so I was never left scratching my head wondering what was going on.
Milton Scott Bradley, the son of hippies who named their first two children Storm and Rain always hated his name. Really? Milton Bradley? His parents must have been stoned and playing a board game when they came up with that one. His sister nicknamed him Scotty and it stuck, thankfully.
Scotty and his partner Frank are off to Baton Rouge for a professional wrestling tournament that Frank is entered in. Frank is the reigning champion and protecting his title from his arch-nemesis. (Well, in real life it is actually a close friend…but you know how those wrestling promotions are 🙂 !) Just as they arrive in Baton Rouge from New Orleans, they hear the LSU mascot tiger has been tiger-napped, and also they find out that Scotty’s mother has been arrested for sucker punching the Louisiana State Attorney General!
Then, once she gets out of jail, she talks Scotty into a mad trip back towards New Orleans to a remote cabin deep in a swamp to find her friend Veronica who she believes may be behind the tiger-napping. When they find Veronica shot dead, things heat up further. What follows is a fast moving tale, with kidnapping, murder, the search for a long missing money box, mayhem…and don’t forget the tiger!
I very much enjoyed this book. I love the way Mr. Herren writes, and the humor that he pops into the story from time to time. Again, like the last book I read from Mr. Herren, there is little or no sex in the book. It is a pure and simple mystery, and I loved it. Now I want to read more of his work. Unfortunately the first two books in this series are not in e-format, but the other three are and I’ll be looking for them soon! I recommend this book to anyone liking a good mystery with gay MCs.
