BLURB:
Blair Montague is sent to Newton, Montana, to purchase a ranch and some land for his father. It’s a trip he doesn’t want to make. But his father paid for his college education in exchange for Blair working for him in his casinos, so Blair has no choice. When he finds out he’ll be dealing with Royal Masters, the man who bullied him in high school, he is shocked. Then Blair is surprised when he finds that Royal’s time in the Marines has changed him to the point where Blair could be attracted to him… if he’s willing to take that chance.
Royal’s life hasn’t been a bed of roses. He saw combat in the military that left him scarred, and not just on the outside. When he inherits his father’s ranch, he discovers his father wasn’t a good manager and the ranch is in trouble. The sale of land would put them back on good footing, but he is suspicious of Blair’s father’s motives, and with good reason. The attraction between them is hard for either to ignore, but it could all evaporate once the land deal is sealed.
REVIEW:
Every time I read a book with this theme, I’m transported back to high school and the guy who tormented me the most. It was always verbal, never physical like Blair Montague faced in his high school days, but what would happen if I ran into that miserable bastard all these years later?
Blair Montague is the son of a casino owner in Las Vegas. His father owns several casinos, and is a total asshole. He is the sort of man who makes his assistant of twenty years address him as Mr. Montague. He is the sort of man who rode his son to get straight A’s throughout college, exploding at him a couple times he got A-‘s. He is the sort of man who forced his son to do a business degree, even though the son preferred art. He is also the sort of man who forced his son to agree, in writing, to work for him for a minimum of three years after college. What he didn’t mention was that it would be as a complete lackey, being treated like an imbecile, and being verbally abused on a daily basis. But Blair has integrity and is determined to serve out his indentured servitude and move on with his life.
Blair’s latest demand from his father is to go back to the town where he lived for a year during high school, where Blair was severely bullied by a guy named Royal Masters. While there, he is to negotiate with one ranch owner to purchase his ranch to raise cattle to provide beef for his father’s casinos. He is to negotiate with the neighboring rancher, Mr. Masters, to buy a strip of his property as well.
When it turns out Mr. Masters has passed away and left the ranch to Royal, Blair isn’t sure he can work with him. But Royal Masters isn’t the guy he was in high school. He is a big, strapping, ex-Marine, cowboy, who is freaking hot as hell. Can Blair control his libido around Royal? Will he get over his hatred of Royal in order to do the deal for his father? What will happen when the deal is complete?
I really enjoyed this book, as I do most of Mr. Grey’s books. The aspect of confronting and meeting your bully as an adult was well portrayed and really brought a twist to the story. Of course there is lots of hot sex, as usual in one of his books! It appears to be a standalone book, and I’ve seen nothing about it being a new series, but we all know Mr. Grey….so we can hope! I recommend the book to anyone who enjoys a cowboy/good guy/bad guy type book.
