Some things in life just might be worth giving up garlic for.
It was simple curiosity that led Augustin to the vampire dating site—he thought it must be a joke started up by a bunch of weirdos. Man, was he right—but it just so happens that those weirdos really are vampires, and when one shows up at his place, Augustin’s world is turned upside down.
First he’s got a psychotic vampire to deal with. Then he’s got one who is much more fun hanging around.
Except now that Augustin knows that vampires exist, he can’t be left alive. Or can he? When an alternative is offered up, Augustin doesn’t care for it, either. After all, he doesn’t want to be whisked off to some disgusting vampire den.
Tony’s the vampire next in line to lead the coven. He wants to be a fair man, and that means arguing against killing Augustin. If he’s also attracted to the sarcastic, adorable man, where’s the harm in that?
The attraction between Augustin and Tony is undeniable, but deny it is what they both try to do. Someone is going to have to bend or break.
REVIEW:
Augustin Carmichael is a single, lonely and slightly overweight man looking for a date. It’s as Augustin is surfing the net whilst he’s eating his guilt free, extra garlicy spaghetti marinara that he finds under ‘Odd News’ a vampire dating site! For a laugh he decides to sign up for it but his application won’t go through so he gives it up as a bad joke. When he begins to get incredibly frustrated by the whole thing he shuts down his laptop and heads to bed. Unfortunately for Augustin the vampire dating site is closely monitored by said vampires and they believe him to be a fake because he tried to sign up as male for male, male for female, female for female!
To see if Augustin is legit Tony sends the only psychotic, homophobic vampire who enjoys scaring humans a lot more than he should! Hmm, not exactly the most sensible decision Tony has made. When Tony goes to make sure Augustin is alright and gets his first look at him, well he immediately falls in lust! Augustin isn’t sure what it is he’s feeling for the dead guy, Tony, my god he can’t get past the fact that vampires are real!! Coven leader Claude has decided it’s not safe for them to leave Augustin alive among other humans so he takes Augustin back to their coven house in the desert.
Augustin is not a happy camper! He can’t believe they had the audacity to kidnap him. When he realises nobody bothered to actually lock him in his room he’s off! He doesn’t get far in the middle of the desert, he makes sure he can always see the house. When Tony comes to rescue him that’s when Augustin realises that vampires don’t do too good in the sun. Tony has blisters everywhere and when Augustin declares he’s not ready for him to bite him he has to find an alternative. Claude, as his sire is the only one who can heal him with his blood and when he’s healed look out Augustin!
Over the next week Augustin settles in to the vampire house but he can’t let Tony know how much he enjoys fighting and arguing with everyone so when Claude tells him he can go back to his house as he has been deemed trustworthy neither Tony nor Augustin say a word, he just goes home. Neither man can believe they gave up so easily that they then have to really consider their feelings for each other.
On the surface My Life Without Garlic is a fun, snarky story but when you look deeper you realise that it’s a very heartfelt story about two incredibly lonely men looking for love. Then they are scared to trust the emotions and feelings that develop between them. It truly is an emotion filled read that I would recommend to all vampire, paranormal, m/m romance lovers.
