AUTHOR: Tia Fielding
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 36 Pages
BLURB:
When plumber and builder Jordan Novotny goes to take a look at the home of the town’s openly gay, recently dumped librarian, he doesn’t expect to find anything other than a falling-apart old house and a water heater in need of repair. Instead, he finds an older man in need of some TLC and a new circle of friends after his ex tossed him aside for a newer model. Stephen might be attracted to Jordan, but he thinks the young man is exactly that—too young. It takes Jordan’s family interfering and a bit of a mishap to make them see that it’s never too late to find a new love, and that age is just a number. All that matters is compatibility and the courage to take a chance.
A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2015 Daily Dose package “Never Too Late.”
REVIEW:
So, this sweet little story was gifted to me to take a gander at and I must say…this short story was just what the doctor ordered.
We have sweet, young Jordan who has just come out as bi-sexual if not fully gay to his family. I liked that even if this isn’t what his parents wanted for him…they truly love and accept their youngest son. Jordan is in the family business and seems to be such a sweet guy. I really liked that this young man has not only a grasp on who he is, but that he is that way because of the love and strength of his family.
Stephen is this older openly gay man whose longtime lover has left him for a “newer, younger model”. Stephen is realizing that the sweet house that he loves is now becoming harder to care for. His ex used to take care of all the home repairs as he took care to cook and clean. Stephen knows that there are people who don’t really know him as there is homophobia running around this small town. Even after all these years…they still hold themselves apart. Stephen is really just like everyone else in the world, he wants to be loved and to love in return.
This story just flew by. I mean, I was just starting to get into the story and…then it was done. However, I will say that this story just really made me smile. To see Stephen and Jordan take their time and really get the chance to know each other and to see if this could go anywhere…priceless. I have to say that it was really sweet when Stephen realizes that he’s been seeing Jordan’s family for 2 months. I just giggled and smiled. They are really sweet together.
I’d say that reading this short story is well worth the 20 or so minutes that it takes to fly through. I have to say that I’m sure that if the rest of the anthology is as sweet as this story…RUN to get this and sit back and enjoy some really great stories from some AMAZING Authors.
