LENGTH: 235 Pages
BLURB:
A year ago Declan Jasper was entertaining sold-out arena crowds as the lead singer of Black Rainbows. But that came to an explosive end when the band got caught up in a criminal cover-up, one that ended with the entire band dead. At least that’s what everyone is supposed to think.
Now, Dex is hiding in plain sight, working as the school band director in a sleepy little mountain resort town while under the protection of a hard-nosed FBI agent. Instead of eyeliner and black leather, he now wears glasses and corduroy. Instead of having sexy coeds—both male and female—throw themselves into his bed, he’s dealing with teenage angst and grumpy parents.
At the top of his troubles list is Kelsey Walker, a junior high bundle of rare musical talent in the form of one confused, messed-up adolescent. Dex figures the problem comes from her broken home and wants to help. But when he meets her father, sexy bar-owner, Jack Walker, he realizes that instead of helping he’s probably just bringing more trouble and danger to their door.
Dex has to stay alive until the trial to bring his bandmates’ murderers to justice, but can he do that if it means sacrificing his own happily ever after?
REVIEW:
So, I was really excited when I saw this book come up for review. I read the first book and was really looking forward to reading the next book that came out. I’m really happy that I did.
Dex/Finn is this man whose life has been turned totally upside down in the last year. He was the lead singer for the band Black Rainbow. He was in a horrific fire that killed his band mates and injured him. He’s been under the protection of the US Marshal’s office and now under the protection of the FBI. Dex/Finn is going working as a band teacher, which I find cute as he’s done that before, taught children music. Dex/Finn has heard music in his head for as long as he can remember and he’s not heard it since the fire that killed his band mates. Dex/Finn has these reoccurring nightmares regarding what happens. Dex/Finn has been alone with his grief and heartache and yes, his wanting of revenge to the person who he holds responsible for this nightmare that his life has become. Dex/Finn is such a wonderful character. He’s this blend of sweet, sexy and sadness.
Jack…now we met Jack in the first Snowcoft book. He owns The Logger Bar and Grill. Jack has his own issues that need to be dealt with. Jack has regrets that he still allows to color his view on his life. He’s known he was gay all his life, however, he tried to not be that way as his family is not only conservative, but religious conservative and we know how that is going to go. Jack married his ex-wife because she got knocked up and even then…he knew it was wrong. That he couldn’t love her the way that she deserved to be loved. Jack’s daughter, Kelsey is another reason that Jack won’t come out. He doesn’t want her to have to deal with kids picking on her because her father is gay. Jack feels that he must make penance for marrying and divorcing his ex-wife. However, he knows that he wouldn’t have his Kelsey if he didn’t. Jack has those issues to face as well as what he’s going to do about Dex/Finn. This guy drives Jack crazy and he wants him so damn bad.
I have to say that we’ve got some great secondary characters happening in this book. We have Jamie and Trevor from the 1st Snowcroft book returning. We have Law returning as the FBI agent protecting Dex/Finn. Law…he still hurts my heart. To know his story from the first book and to see him a year later…he breaks my heart. I’m really glad that Law is going to get his own story. I just want the best for him so damn bad. Ugghh….I could go on about him and still never finish telling you what I want so badly for him. Mande…Jack’s ex-wife’s best friend who has the hots for Jack in the WORST Way!! Yeah, Jack should have nipped that Ish in the bud, but that shit has to happen in order for Jack to finally own his truth.
Now, there was some sexy time in this book and even when our MC’s got together for the first time….you could feel the electricity flowing between these guys. It was never just thrown in as filler. The intimate scenes were always there to show the flow as well as the growth of our characters into lovers. I enjoyed every hot minute and you will too!!
Now, the baddie, Frederick, in this story…you have him reference and you know that he’s a bad guy and his screen time…yeah…that Jerk proves he’s a bad guy as well as an AWFUL human being. I have to say that he made me sick with his anger issues and how far off the deep end he went. He is the ex of the bassist, Michael and he’s such a horrible person that I can say he had NO redeeming qualities bout him.
This was such a thrilling book that I really didn’t want to work. I had a hard time actually putting this book down and actually work. I wanted to see how these characters would grow and I wanted to see how everything would turn out. The climax of this story…Holy Hannah, peeps. I held my damn breath and my heart was pounding. It was GOOD. Violent….but good.
You HAVE to read this book. You won’t regret it. I will say that you don’t really need to read the first book, however, you’ll get a much better sense of the place and the people and you’ll get Law’s story and boy…trust me…have your damn tissues ready. This is really such a great story and with such wonderful characters that you get to watch grow and just be evolve as people.
It’s worth sitting down in your comfy chair and have a drink and a few tissues, as you’ll totally need them.
So, get ready to fall in love and be taken for a ride.
