LENGTH: 138 Pages
BLURB:
The adventure continues in this action-packed sequel to The Degan Incident!
Dr. Aron Adler is ordered to take part in a rescue mission to a research colony located on an uninhabited planet in the outer rim. He is to immediately report to the U.S.C. Cassini, which will take Aron, two other scientists, and a unit of Union Marines to the colony. Once there, they are to assess the situation and retrieve any data or specimens.
Formerly a scientist in the Union Navy, Aron was dishonorably discharged following a court-martial for failing to obey orders. Stepping foot on the Cassini brings up old feelings he would rather forget. Shunned by the crew of the Cassini, Aron finds comfort in the arms—and bed—of Marine corporal Kane Robertson.
Upon reaching the colony, it becomes apparent that not everything is as it seems. Once again, Aron is faced with a difficult decision: follow orders or follow his heart.
REVIEW:
Welcome to the second Flashback Friday installment of the Galactic Conspiracies by Rob Colton. I just love this description from the “About the Author” blurb. “A romantic at heart, he loves stores that feature big, burly men who find true love and happy endings.” No wonder I love Rob Colton’s books, that same description could describe me! Oh, and he also shares my love of the fur as well! 🙂
In The Cassini Mission we are re-introduced to Dr. Aron Adler, who we met in book one briefly before the bad guys rushed in and took Devin hostage. This time he is back for his own story, with his own big, burly, hairy Marine. Aron has been forced back into his Union Navy uniform for a special mission beyond Union space to rescue a secret scientific station. After Aron was dishonorably discharged following a court martial for failing to follow an order to allow terraforming on a planet that already had an indigenous mammalian species, he has been working as an exobiologist working with and studying the different animals on the myriad of different worlds in the Union.
Now he has been forced back onto active duty and sent off to this far lying station, along with 2 other scientists he knows and a handful of Marines. One of those Marines, Corporal Kane Robertson provides the big hairy love interest! But why is it such a small crew and such a wreck of a space ship? Is there more to this mission than meets the eye?
I really enjoyed this book. It was a great follow up to book one. As I mentioned in my previous review of book one, Rob Colton does an excellent job with character development and story line, while at the same time throwing in enough sex to keep everyone happy. And did I mention the sex is with big, burly, hairy Marines? 😉
I highly recommend this book and the series to anyone who is into a feel good science-fiction story. Rob Colton believes in a happy ending, so you’re always assured a fun read without a lot of angst and drama. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I do! Off to read the new book three which came out the same day I’m writing this review. Can’t wait. I’ve been waiting for the next installment for ages!
