REVIEW:
Steven Hayes is a school teacher has who moved to Austin after leaving New York City to get away from his homophobic, religious parents who disowned him the moment he came out to them as he heard it was a gay friendly town. The job falls through as the school gets closed down, luckily he meets Derrick Trent at a bar who tells him about a position at Copper Creek.
Derrick can’t believe his luck when he meets Steven and he agrees to come to little Copper Creek for a job interview and he stays! Within the month they were an established couple, they bought a house together and they were planning to get married in the next school holidays!
The morning of the flood starts out very bad for both men as they fight about how early Derrick gets up and how late Steven went to bed. When it continues to rain non-stop Steven gets concerned about flooding and then he gets really worried when Derrick doesn’t answer his phone. When they get the alarm to evacuate the school Steven is missing one little girl from his class so he stays behind to find her. The flood water is so high by the time Derrick comes to rescue Steven and the little girl that he can only take one back with him in his little boat and it’s hours before he’s able to get back for Steven.
When the flood waters go down it’s reveal that it was the biggest flood in century’s. They’re very lucky they didn’t lose anyone in such severe weather . I’m sure we can all relate to the terror the towns people felt as we have probably all been through something as terrifying as the flood, I know I have! This might be a short story but A.C. Katt has packed a lot of information and detail in 48 pages. These are very well written short stories about different floods.
