TITLE: A Life Without
AUTHOR: Katya Harris
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 47 pages
BLURB:
After decades of wondering and worrying over his submissive tendencies, fortysomething Todd decides to explore his fantasies. His first step is to join a BDSM club, and it’s there that he meets Malik, a young and beautiful Dominant who is very interested in introducing Todd to this world. In fact, Malik is interested in everything about Todd, which is startling to the older man given the differences in their ages. Malik helps Todd explore his submissiveness, but after an unpleasant meeting with Todd’s ex-boyfriend, he also encourages him to confront his demons so he will no longer live his life in shame.
REVIEW:
I will be completely honest and say age gap stories and silver foxes are not my usual thing. But I was intrigued by the premise of this year’s Daily Dose subject matter. I’ve been on an intense BDSM kick. Every book I’ve been attracted to lately has some sort of BDSM element so the moment I read this blurb, I was hooked. I love D/s couples where the Dominant is the unexpected of the two, I love that little thrill.
Todd is recently single from a previous long term relationship. A relationship in which Todd thought was the one for him. After exposing his true self, his ex rejected him in the worst way. Dejected, ashamed, and unsure Todd decides to join a BDSM club to explore his desires and see what it is he truly wants. During his first visit to the club Todd finds himself interested in several of the scenes going on. He allows himself to observe from a distance. Early on he’s approached by Malik; Malik being younger Todd is so confused as to why he would want anything to do with him. Malik has a strong hand and a persuasive manner that lures Todd into discussing his desires. They embark on an endeavor of mutual pleasure but there are some bumps along the way.
There is absolutely nothing I did not love about Malik. He was kind, caring, understand, unwavering, loyal, and strong. When he spoke it was always with so much conviction you had no other choice but to believe him.
These men together were magic, Absolute magic. The light and the dark, a perfect match.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author but it will NOT be my last. The writing, the character development, the plot, the scenes, and the balancing between it all with it being such a short story was extremely well done. Absolutely recommend!!!

Hi Amber, I enjoyed your review and even though I do enjoy May to December romances I also enjoy it when the dynamics change and the role twist in this story with the younger man is the carer and the dominant one the in the relationship. Also a big sigh for the sensitive and sensual cover 🙂 and another author/book to add to my wish list. Thank you for a chance to win a book from the collection and perhaps the whole collection…
Sula, thank you so much for commenting. I’m so enjoying these DSP Daily Dose stories…they’re really very good. I hope you check out the whole bunch!! Take care.
