REVIEW:
On his first mission for his family’s Security business Ryan Newell nervous. Busy worrying he’ll do something to mess up the rescue of three men that have been kidnapped by a cult, he gets caught by one of the prisoners when he finally gets inside the basement where they’re being held! Lucky for him Zach Landen is far too weak and sick to be much of a threat.
Zach has no idea why he’s been kidnapped along with three other young men. When Ryan drops into the cell he’s hiding in, waiting to attack the guards so they can try to escape he realises his fellow prisoner who escaped several days’ previous sent help for them. When Ryan finds Zach to be I such bad health he knows he can’t get them all out so he calls in his brothers to help.
It’s whilst Ryan has Zach holed up in a motel so he can pump him full of antibiotics to get rid of the pneumonia he developed in his cell in the basement, that they acknowledge the attraction between them. For the first time ever, Zach wants more than just sex with a man. He admits he was a player in high school and college but what he’s beginning to feel for Ryan is something far more meaningful than anything he’s ever felt. Ryan’s scared to believe the feelings he has for Zach, he’s been hurt before by men who only want sex and use the fact that he cares for them. He’s not altogether certain Zach isn’t just feeling grateful for rescuing him. They spend the week getting to know each other, something neither has done before. Ryan has told Zach things even his brothers don’t know about! When they return home to Ryan’s home, they both decide to give a relationship a go.
It’s when Ryan has to go back to help with the other rescued prisoners, that Zach comes ‘across’ a file that’s part of the investigation that gets’ him thinking about why they were kidnapped. Surely it’s not because they’re all gay? The more he looks the more he realises that is exactly why they were taken.
I don’t think there would be anything more devastating that the realisation that you were kidnapped and held prisoner just because you are gay! This is an incredibly emotional story, but what’s even more devastating is the knowledge that this really does happen. I will certainly be reading a lot more of April Kelley’s books, especially this series! I would recommend not only this book but the entire series!
