TITLE: Piano Man
SERIES: Never Too Late (2015 Daily Dose)
AUTHOR: Elizabeth Coldwell
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 24 Pages
BLURB:
Approaching fifty, Graham is tired of the gay club scene. He dreams of a venue where he won’t be judged on his age and looks. He and his friend Mike decide to fill the gap in the market by opening the Midnight Lounge, a gay-friendly piano bar in the heart of London’s Soho. After several unsuccessful auditions, Graham finds the perfect pianist for the bar. Adam Turner is young, handsome, and talented, and there’s a spark of attraction between him and Graham, but Graham’s split with his ex has left him feeling old and unattractive. He believes Adam is just stringing him along—a belief that seems validated when Adam kisses him, then claims he’s made a big mistake. Adam wants Graham, but first he’ll have to prove to Graham that age is no barrier to finding love.
REVIEW:
Six months ago the man Graham had spent the last eighteen years building a life with told him that it was over. Graham is left with his confidence in tatters and his sex drive apparently departed along with his ex. Fast approaching fifty, he feels that he’s past his best before date and doesn’t see how anybody would be interested in a relationship with him. Bemoaning the lack of venues for more mature adults to hang out, Graham and his best friend decide they need to open their own piano bar. Why not? Between them they have the skill to carry it off. All they need now is a pianist. But when they finally hire Adam Turner, the sexy younger man begins hinting that he might be interested in filling more than the one position in Graham’s life.
This was a cute little story to start off my Daily Dose reading. I’m a sucker for May/December relationships and the main characters here had at least fifteen years between them. Graham does have an issue with the difference in ages, but it’s really just one more insecurity to add to his list rather than any big drama in itself. Adam didn’t care at all, he was simply looking for a man that he could see himself forming a serious relationship with.
The whole story is told from Graham’s point of view and despite the short length of the story I would have liked to know a few of Adam’s thoughts. We really don’t know anything about Adam except that he spent five years playing the piano on cruise ships.
This story gets serious bonus points for sex involving a baby grand piano. I cheered (at least internally) when Adam bends Graham over that beautifully reflective surface. Definitely my favourite scene in the whole book.
I’m probably going to spend the rest of the day channeling Billy Joel but I couldn’t resist YouTubing Piano Man, because what could be a more perfect soundtrack to accompany this book?

Ooo, a piano bar!
I liked that idea too! A nice change from a club.
This story sounds delightful, as I also love May to December romances and perhaps one day this story could be extended and maybe share some of Adam’s thoughts as well (hint hint) 🙂
I’m always hinting that stories can be made longer… 😉
Well I’ve never read a book that involved sex and a baby grand piano…this could be interesting =)
Souds good
I really like may-december stories so this should be a good read.
