All they can do is live day to day…
Felix Ingesson has returned to his duties as the Chaos’s engineer with Zander Anatolius, his ex-boyfriend-turned-broken-super-soldier, at his side. Hope means something again. But there’s nothing Felix can do to battle the alien poison flowing through Zander’s veins, or his imminent mental decline. With each passing day, the side effects of Zander’s experimental training are becoming more difficult to ignore.
When the ruthless Agrius Cartel seeks their revenge—including an ambush and an attempt to kidnap the Chaos’s crew—Zander is pushed over the edge. He can no longer hide his symptoms, nor does he want to. But hurting Felix when he’s not in control of himself is Zander’s worst nightmare—when it nearly happens, he agrees to seek help. Even if that means trusting the unknown.
As Zander places his life in alien hands, Felix appoints himself his lover’s keeper. And though he tries to be strong, he can’t ignore the fact that he might lose Zander…forever this time.
REVIEW:
In book two of the Chaos Station series, we’re back with our familiar crew of the Chaos. Zander has now joined the crew full time, but the symptoms of his super soldier injections of the alien DNA is starting to break down his body. He is having more and more of the blank incidents and his brain is starting to be severely affected. He can’t remember his friend’s names some days.
The Agrius Cartel is still after the Chaos and its crew, and things come to a boil in this chapter of the series. Will there be anywhere to run that the Cartel isn’t already there looking for them?
Felix is falling more and more in love with Zander, but Zander has almost killed him on more than one occasion. What can Felix do to help Zander with these blank periods that are increasing in number? Will Ness be able to help with her limited medical facilities aboard the Chaos? What about this idea of Qek’s to go to her homeworld for help? Or what about contacting Zander’s family for help? After all he is the third son of the Galaxy’s wealthiest man!
I enjoyed this latest chapter in this new series. I see from the end of the book that a third installment is due in the fall. The book was well written and well edited, but to be really honest I’m not super happy with the open ending of the book. I understand the need to keep the readers wanting more, but this time it seemed like it ended abruptly, and I’m assuming book three will pick up at the end of their current 4 days voyage. I could be wrong and maybe I was supposed to be happy with the HFN ending. But that is just my opinion. Take it for what it is worth!
Regardless of my personal opinion on the ending of the book, I liked it a lot and recommend both this book and its predecessor. Both are great reads and well worth your time if you are a sci-fi fan like me. I will be anxiously awaiting “Skip Trace” so that I know what happens next!
