Ryan Oakley, lead singer of Bad Oak and heartthrob extraordinaire, isn’t looking for a girlfriend. He’s definitely not looking for a boyfriend, but after the explosive encounter he has with a guy he meets backstage, he realizes he’s more flexisexual than he’d thought. Of course, suddenly being able to shift into a wolf is an unexpected side effect he didn’t expect and can barely control.
Bardulf Forst is Alpha-Heir to his pack, but he can’t resist his little sister when she begs him to meet Ryan Oakley. When he realizes the sexy singer is his mate, he can’t deny instinct. He claims the famous rock star even though he knows his father won’t approve: heirs are supposed to have children and two males can’t reproduce.
Little do they know that they’re about to experience an ancient shifter biological imperative: when two male Alphas mate, unexpected miracles sometimes happen.
REVIEW:
Ryan Oakley is on top of the world living the dream. The girls want him and the guys want to be him. His life is perfect and on track what could go wrong?
Bardulf Forst is on a mission of mercy for his love stricken sister who won a kiss from “The Ryan Oakley”, he is going to retrieve it from him. Being gay and a good brother Bardulf figures he can bite the big one and do it for her.
I have read many m/m books but this is one of my first few shifter books and my very first M-preg books. I was not sure what to expect. Actually, it turned out to be an advantage. I had no preconceived notions of what it should be when I realized that there were no glittery vampires I figured count me it.
The book full of humor and wicked funny dialog. Bardulf’s 16 year old sister is madly in love with Ryan Oakley, she wins a kiss from him in a contest. She cannot go so she sends big brother Bardulf in her place. Bardulf goes and gets the kiss meant for his sister but before going he cannot resist and takes a bite for himself. Unfortunately in doing this he claimed Ryan Oakley as his mate. That was certainly not what he had planned.
Ryan is coming to terms with his new condition all alone. He does not understand the metamorphosis that has taken place. Ryan aches for Bardulf not only for answers but also for companionship.
Bardulf Frost is an Alpha Heir, and is required to produce an heir and take over the pack. He cannot leave this responsibility to his sister because their father is ill and there may not be time. Bardulf takes this responsibility with respect and dignity.
Somewhere in Ryan’s family tree, someone else was wolfie too, and to his surprise occasionally when two Alphas “hook up” babies can happen. This information freaks Bardulf right out. Being pregnant was not on his five year plan and he whines when he gets morning sickness like most men do when they get a cold.
The psychic bond between the men grows and they are determined to be together. They have to take their time and educate people and still maintain authority and credibility. Both men have to compromise just a bit with the situation and they do not like that. Bardulf is forced to have difficult conversations with his family and tribe. Both men come out and proud.
I honestly did not think that I would like a shifter story it just seemed a bit far-fetched but I just went along for the ride and I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked and cared about the characters. It takes a subject that makes the reader suspend some degree of belief but the author tells it in an entertaining way so that did not become an issue.
The storytelling was not boring; it was funny and very entertaining. Also seeing a man have a baby is too funny. Both men are strong personalities and alphas, but Bardulf out ranks Ryan in terms of the tribe dynamic. He treats his father with respect and his grandfather is a wonderful advocate for him.
I really liked the secondary characters; I found them interesting and believable. I wish that we saw more of them; the author did a good job of doing this too. I just wanted more because I found them to be so fascinating.
Rock Star Baby had a satisfying ending leaving the door open for perhaps a few other stories like Ryan’s cousin for instance. I would also like to learn more of Bardulf’s tribe in the next book as well.
This is a good book and was not at all what I expected it to be. For my first book to read about shifters, and male pregnancy I am pleased that I chose this one. I look forward to reading more in the future.
