BLURB:
Professor Derek Rutledge is hated and feared by all of his students. Strict, reserved and ruthless, he doesn’t tolerate mistakes and has little patience for his students.
Shawn Wyatt is a twenty-year-old struggling to provide for his younger sisters after the death of their parents. On the verge of losing his scholarship, Shawn becomes desperate enough to go to Professor Rutledge.
Everyone says Rutledge doesn’t have a heart. Everyone says he’s a ruthless bastard. Shawn finds out that everyone is right. He strikes a deal with Rutledge, but unexpectedly, the deal turns into something so much more.
Something all-consuming and addictive. Something neither of them wants.
REVIEW:
Can I just stop and say that I am so happy I stumbled on this series on Amazon!
In the first full book, we are introduced to Sage’s cousin Shawn. Sage, if you remember, was the young man who went to jail for a year in “Straight Boy”, book 0.5 in this series, which I reviewed a couple days ago. Shawn is also straight, but maybe in the same way that Sage is straight?
Shawn Wyatt has had a very hard life. His parents died and left staggering amounts of debt behind. Once the family home and everything else of value was sold off to settle the debt collectors, Shawn and his two toddler sisters were left homeless. Shawn has been working two jobs, plus going to college on a scholarship to study engineering. Things are starting to come apart for him though. He is spending more on a babysitter for the girls than he is making, and he still needs to feed the three of them.
School is also going to hell. He has received a letter that if he doesn’t bring his grades up in three classes he will lose his scholarship. Only one problem. One of the professors, Professor Derek Rutledge is a total condescending asshole who believes students who don’t work hard enough don’t pass his class. He thinks “Wyatt” is one of those students.
When one of his friends suggests a way that Shawn might get Professor Rutledge to agree to help him, Shawn approaches the Professor with an offer. To both their surprise, the offer is accepted. But it is kind of like being on a rollercoaster. Once you get to the top of that first hill, hold on for whatever happens next! Exactly what happens with Shawn and Derek, you’ll have to read to find out!
I really enjoyed this installment. Both the main characters, and the supporting characters, like Shawn’s adorable little sisters, and even Derek’s evil homophobic father, are well written and very believable. Once again, the sex scenes in this installment kept me just as focused as the sex in the prequel novella. I particularly liked the juxtaposition of Shawn’s staggering poverty compared to Derek’s family’s wealth. I recommend this book, and can’t wait to start the next one! Stay tuned next week for the next installment!

For once I’ve read a book you have Dan!!! I read this series and I liked it. I think the first book was my favorite just due to the complexity of Derek and Shawn. Started out with something they both needed and turned into something the both wanted. Curious to see what you think of the two other books.
I really liked all four. Not sure which I would pick as my favorite!
I have to grab the fourth one, I only read 3.
