He’s always considered himself mentally tough, but when he attends a multi-vehicle accident and sees a dead boy with features remarkably similar to his long-time boyfriend, his mental health takes a hit.
All Jake Montgomery wants is to propose to his boyfriend on their ten-year anniversary. He’s already bought the perfect rings, but when Cameron struggles to look at him after a tragic accident, he has doubts about their future. Cam is withdrawing, and Jake doesn’t know why.
With heated arguments and cold shoulders, Cam and Jake’s life starts to fall apart. Just when Cam thinks he can overcome his issues and finally talk to Jake, memories from Jake’s past threaten to push them apart forever.
REVIEW:
There is no denying that I am an angst JUNKIE! I love it, I need it, and I just gotta have it in my stories. And let me tell you, Out of the Blue totally satisfied that craving. I adored this story. It was so good. The love these men share was so incredibly beautiful and to watch it crumble beneath was heartbreaking. The need to mend the rift was apparent in both characters and watching them struggle trying to find ways to make it better was emotionally draining. I felt so many things while reading this story…and I love when an author does that. The writing was really good, flowed so well.
Jake Montgomery has been in love with his boyfriend, Cameron since their very first date. They’ve been practically inseparable for just as long. With their 10 year anniversary lurking in the next few months Jake thinks it’s time for the biggest commitment of their lives, marriage. So, he starts planning on how to ask Cam. He even takes his best friend ring shopping. It’s obvious to everyone around this couple that they are perfectly matched and incredibly in love.
Cameron Cooper is a Lieutenant in the San Francisco Fire Department. He’s always wanted to be a fireman and he is living his dream with the love of his life. One night his fire station answers a call regarding a multiple car accident on the freeway. Upon arrival Cam goes about his job assessing the scene and helping victims. One of the cars he exams has a little boy who didn’t survive the collision in the back seat. When Cam’s eyes land on the little boys face he is devastated by the fact that the little boy resembles his boyfriend, Jake. He’s so shook up by it he has a panic attack right there at the scene.
What ensues following this horrific event is severe PTSD for Cam. He can’t get over the tragedy. He can’t even bring himself to look into Jake’s eyes anymore because all he sees is death. Naturally this takes a toll on their relationship. Jake and Cam feel their whole world spiraling out of control and both of them can’t stop it. Cam closes off and won’t communicate anymore. Jake is hurt, resentful and angry.
Watching these men fall apart, then pick up the pieces and make something beautiful was enthralling. I loved the healing. I loved that they were open and willing to try again.
This was a great story and I can’t wait for more from this author!! Highly recommend.
