REVIEW:
Carter Reece has just moved from Hartford to the Boston suburbs to take over a veterinarian practice for a retiring vet. He is surprised to learn that the other vet is still making house calls for a few customers. He thought only country vets made house calls, and then only for large animals.
One of the customers that Carter is introduced to is Isaac Brannigan, a totally gorgeous blind man with a new guide dog named Brady. Isaac isn’t that nice a guy. He is arrogant, moody, sullen, and has a snippy temper. The slightest thing sets him off. Isaac is very dismissive of Carter that first day. When Carter returns the next day, Isaac’s sister Hannah catches Carter practically drooling over her brother. She is at first surprised, then smiling, but Isaac doesn’t clue quite as quickly. It takes a while, and him being particularly snarky before Carter tells him he is gay.
Isaac hasn’t had his guide dog, Brady, for very long, and things aren’t going well. Isaac refuses to bond with the dog, even though the dog is perfect for him. Can Carter make him understand what a great dog Brady is, or will that conversation knock all further conversations between the two aside? Is Isaac gay? If not, how will he feel when Carter comes out to him? And what about Mark, Carter’s best friend? What is up with him borrowing Carter’s dog to be a chick or dick magnet at the park?
I’ve got to say that I really enjoyed this book. It is, I think, my third time reading it. This series is like comfort food for the mind. I highly recommend this book, and the entire series. Stay tuned next week for my review of book two in the series, Through These Eyes!
