LENGTH: 246 pages
BLURB:
After a year of picking up the pieces of his shattered life, former US Marshal Micah Beasley takes a job as body guard for a spoiled rich kid who can’t leave his house. It’s a cupcake assignment. He just needs to get back in the game. What can go wrong?
Brilliant and incredibly talented, Christopher (Kit) Auberon wears tragedy as a second skin. Kit is all that’s left of a powerful family. Seemingly forgotten he’s spent his entire life in seclusion and he likes it that way.
Death threats are a fact of life, but when those threats become real, Micah and Kit are forced to put their differences aside to discover who wants Kit dead. Only to discover that there are monsters in Kit’s closet that should never be disturbed.
REVIEW:
I love story lines where there is a protector, a distinct person whose sole job is to protect. When I first read the blurb for Light from the Dark I had got the impression that Micah fit that protector mold considering he was in fact hired to be a bodyguard. And while he is strong, safe, trained, and skillful I found him incredibly complacent when it came to his duties. Knowing their was a significant threat to Kit, he was continually sleeping, distracted, and not very vigilant. He wasn’t even armed throughout some of the tensest situations. He was more like a companion/chef for Kit, not a bodyguard. I didn’t understand his role. It was very different from how I perceived him from the blurb and that was a disappointment.
I did however love Kit. His pain was palpable but he wasn’t a victim. He wasn’t a martyr. He tried to live the best life he could under his horrible circumstances. I loved how good and loyal he was to his staff and I loved how open and emotional he was with Micah. He was a carefully thought out amazing character and I loved reading him.
Micah and Kit are terribly damaged. Their scars are many, both inside and out. You could feel the connection in their first meeting. The chemistry between the two was so good. I loved the build up and the tension. I felt like I was going through this whole courtship with these two. The relationship was written so well.
This story is full of mystery and suspense. From the beginning we know someone is out to kill Kit. We know that this person is somehow able to infiltrate Kit’s extremely secure home. We know that even Micah can’t seem to protect him (but, honestly, he wasn’t that great of a bodyguard). The who, what, where and why all unfolds in a crazy convoluted story that would rival any drama riddled Soap Opera. I was entertained through most of the story but I did get lost in all the twists and turns. In that aspect I think it was a bit overdone. I wanted to know what happened. The plot caught my attention and held it. I just wish the “mystery” wasn’t so over the top and Micah was confusing too.
Overall, this was a good book I liked it.
