The love of my life is dead.
Is there really a reason to live anymore?
I’m a war veteran who has suffered great tragedies overseas. Not only have I lost my right foot, but I have also lost my wife. Both at the hands of terrorists. Recurrent nightmares, a dead end job, and a painful limp are all I have left. Not much of a reason to wake up in the morning if you ask me. I’m struggling to carry on in this very lonely excuse of a life. The only reason I’m still swimming is because I have my best friend, Tucker, and my sister, Lizette, keeping me afloat. Tucker has been my saving grace. I would not be here if it weren’t for him…literally. We have become practically inseparable since moving in together. And then, out of nowhere, there are these feelings and emotions. The kind that I haven’t felt in years; not since I lost the love of my life. The kind that I’m not sure I can handle, or even want to. But they have started wrapping around my broken and shattered heart, trying to mend it – whether I’m ready for it or not. Only they are not for a woman as you would expect, but for the man suddenly sharing my bed.
Am I ready to give love another go? I’m not so sure that I have it in me.
But then again, I’m tired of being at war.
REVIEW:
Ex-Marine Dennis, who lost part of his leg, does not only suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) but also is a widow. His roommate and best friend Tucker is another ex-marine with PTSD and a disability, just like Dennis. In Tucker’s case he lost his hearing. These wounded heroes understand one another, not only because they are best friends or ex-marines, but also because both of them suffered a lot. They are very close to each other and luckily, Dennis can use sign language. What gets more interesting is that one night Dennis and Tucker had a night out and everything changes after that.
Wow. What a story. This writer wrote the symptoms of PTSD and of being suicidal with understanding and empathy, so I applaud her. These parts were heart wrenching for me, I think it is only fair that I warn you to keep tissues with you. I really had an appreciation of how our soldiers must sometimes feel during and after their service.
I was deeply touched watching these two awesome guys slowly fall in love with each other to the point I needed tissues for that also.
The intimate scenes were explicit and sensuous but never lost that romantic touch for me. These two guys were perfect for each other. I must say, as I read this story, part of me kept wishing this was a movie because I would love to see the expressions, the body postures and how they made love. I could even imagine the background music. All because the writer was able to show me what was happening rather than just telling me.
I normally avoid cliffhangers because I have no patience for waiting, but I am glad that I read this story because it is a beautiful contemporary gay romance with sexy and sensuous love scenes.
Great plot that felt real to me so I can’t wait to read the 2nd and the 3rd part. Andria Large, I am now one of your official fans.
