TITLE: Little Wolf
SERIES: Being(s) In Love #4
AUTHOR: R. Cooper
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 380 Pages
BLURB:
On the run from his old-blood werewolf family, Tim Dirus finds himself in Wolf’s Paw, one of the last surviving refuges from the days when werewolves were hunted by humans and one of the last places Tim wants to be. Kept away from other wolves by his uncle, Tim knows almost nothing about his own kind except that alpha werewolves only want to control and dominate a scrawny wolf like him.
Tim isn’t in Wolf’s Paw an hour before he draws the attention of Sheriff Nathaniel Neri, the alphaest alpha in a town full of alphas. Powerful, intimidating, and the most beautiful wolf Tim has ever seen, Nathaniel makes Tim feel safe for reasons Tim doesn’t understand. For five years he’s lived on the run, in fear of his family and other wolves. Everything about Wolf’s Paw is contrary to what he thought he knew, and he is terrified. Fearing his mate will run, Sheriff Nathaniel must calm his little wolf and show him he’s more than a match for this big, bad alpha.
REVIEW:
I’m utterly disappointed in this book. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I’ve been waiting for Tim and Nathaniel’s story. And initially I really enjoyed Nathaniel and Tim’s interactions. I can’t fault the author on their story telling abilities. I was sucked in and truly loved the chemistry that was built, at first. After about the 4th or 5th time of them beating around the bush, I was ready for them to finally DO IT! The length of this build up was unnecessary to the point of being frustrating.
I also couldn’t reconcile this Nathaniel to the Nathaniel that we met in Book 3. I can’t imagine an Alpha, ANY Alpha allowing their mate to do what Tim did, to talk to their Alpha like Tim did, to belittle their Alpha in front of the pack, like Tim did and the Albert situation almost made me DNF this book. Furthermore, Nathaniel seemed like a completely different character, which was so thoroughly disappointing.
Book 4 picks up at the early stages of the relationship between lone wolf Tim and Wolf Paw town Sheriff and Alpha Nathanial Neri. In book 3 we didn’t get a good grip on Tim’s personality but in book 4 he’s attitude screams at you on almost every page. He’s snarky and pissy almost to a fault maybe understandably so, but it got to be grating after awhile. Also, even though we know Luca is a bad guy, I almost felt like Tim was obsessed with him due to how much he thought about him. It seemed constant and that was bothersome.
One thing is certain; Nathaniel and Tim are extremely hot together. Once Nathaniel stopped being a martyr and Tim stopped talking and analyzing everything they burned up some sheets. Smokin’ HOT, for sure.
This author is a fantastic writer and maybe if I had never read book 3 then I may not have been so disappointed in book 4. I just can’t wrap my brain around how the characters are in this book versus how they were portrayed in book 3. The scenarios were very odd, at times I honestly had no idea what was going which led to going back and re-reading things and to keep doing that with a book that is close to 400 pages was exhausting to say the least.
I did however enjoy the town’s people. I think if it wasn’t for all the quirky, loyal, and good people of Wolf’s Paw then this book would have been a total bust for me.
Overall, this was just ok for me.
