BLURB:
Duncan Blackthorne carried a heavy burden for one so young. One of the most powerful witches of the Earth Clans, his singular ability to control fire was both blessing and curse. The wallflower of his family, they had no idea of what turbulent waters churned under his calm surface. Never expecting to find love, he trudged through life, expecting nothing. Until the man in his dreams became more real and insistent, Duncan realized his dream lover was so much more than expected. Suddenly he had a real world dominant that rocked his body and a dreaming ghost lover who captured his heart. Now what the hell was a witch to do?
Note to my readers: This book contains strong male/male content. It also contains an epilogue, updating characters from previous series, linking my various books.
REVIEW:
In book two of the Oswald Witches series, Matt has moved to the story of Duncan, the second son of the Oswald-Blackthorne family. Duncan has always been a little “different”. He isn’t big and brawny like his brothers, but instead is thin and bookish. As a result, he is the librarian in the town of Maquintock Bay. But he is also one of the most powerful fire witches alive.
As we soon learn, Duncan has been keeping a secret from his family, he is Brooks Brothers by day, and a boot licker by night, as his sister Jaime says when she finds out about his secret BDSM life. Turns out Mr. Duncan is kind of a super freak when it comes to pain. He has both nipples, his belly button and his penis all pierced, he has tattoos on most of his body, and he goes to an ultra-secret Demon owned BDSM bar in Boston where he lets a huge demon whip him and use his body in a total Sub/Dom relationship. It helps that the demon and the room are fireproof, since Duncan, being a fire witch, spontaneously combusts during orgasm!
But Duncan longs for more. Who is this ghost hanging around and invading his dreams? Why does he have a normal orgasm when he has dream sex with the ghost and wakes up sticky? Why isn’t there any fire?
I loved the book. There were a few issues though that are going to bump it down a notch on my rating scale. At 85% into the book on my kindle, I hit a page that said “six months later”. There were things mentioned in that section, like Oscar and Donovan being together, that were not in the book. I’m guessing they might be in the next book, but it seemed like a major spoiler to me. The other thing was the epilogue. I understand what the author is doing, working towards tying his books together into one world, but the abrupt change on both this book and the previous one at the epilogue page was just too much for me. I’d much rather see those epilogues published as a side story, bridging the stories together.
All that said, never doubt that I recommend this book, and its predecessor highly. I’m really liking the story of the Oswald Witches. If you haven’t started the tales yet, you should!
