REVIEW:
“Ready or not the gay guys are here.”
I really enjoyed this book. Like, A LOT!! It was cute and witty, angsty without being annoying and so incredibly real. I fell in love with these characters, so much. I loved the supportive friends, immensely. Even though it was really hard for Joe to see how much support he had, I loved how it was consistent. He definitely needed the reinforcement from his sister and Dallas’s co-workers. I don’t think he’d have come as far if he didn’t have that.
Joe Allegretti is a very proud and very Italian 4th generation fireman. Out on a fire call he gets hit by fallen debris in a house and gets stuck under it. Coincidentally, he is rescued by a firefighter he met earlier in the night. Even though he feels immense gratitude towards Dallas, he’s noticing the explosive attraction they share is eclipsing every other emotion. Joe is complexly thrown for a loop because of this attraction. He feels like he’s never had these thoughts for another man before. He’s always seen himself as a straight arrow. He also comes from a Catholic family who he believes feel strongly against homosexuality but that doesn’t stop his feelings from evolving into something more.
Dallas Williams has been gay all his life. Never having to hide who he’s attracted to he’s perplexed by Joe’s reaction to him. He knows there’s an unbelievable attraction between them but he will not hide their relationship. Not for Joe or anyone.
These men embark on a tentative friendship. They love each other’s company and Dallas would love to see their friendship evolve into something more but Joe hesitates and backs away at every turn. I loved how Dallas never gave up on Joe. I found it incredibly endearing. You could see the pain Dallas was in wanting Joe so badly but he stuck with Joe, stayed by his side as a good friend and waited him out.
This connection was smokin’ hot!! I loved the pace of the relationship and even though there were some pretty dramatic scenes I never felt it was over the top.
This is a great book. Anyone into extremely hot firefighter romance would love this book!!!
