REVIEW:
I really like this tale from K.C. Wells. I think we all had that one teacher that we seriously crushed on during our school years. At least I know I did.
Nick Tremantle is a high school teacher in Florida. Eight years ago he had a student who made him rethink his prior thoughts that he was not very sexual, and straight. Teaching then seventeen year old Alex Nordmann was trying because of the forbidden thoughts Nick had. Luckily for Nick’s peace of mind, Alex graduated and moved on to college and Nick hasn’t seen him since.
Then when Nick is on his way home one day he sees a young man hitchhiking. Nick’s life has sucked lately, his mom has just died, he has had to switch jobs and move to a less expensive house, and he is pretty miserable. So figuring maybe he’ll collect some good Karma from doing a good deed, he pulls over to give the guy a ride. Imagine his surprise when the young man walks up to the window and it is Alex!
Now twenty-five years old, Alex is still beautiful but he has had a rough life since high school. Diagnosed with a type of leukemia, he has been undergoing treatments for years, but now it is in remission and Alex is enjoying every day. One part of enjoying every day is finally coming out to his parents, who surprised him by telling him to move out. They had always been supportive of the leukemia, but his being gay was too much for them.
Alex ends up back at Nick’s house, and Nick offers to let him stay there until he gets on his feet. But what about the attraction from both sides? After all, Nick isn’t Alex’s teacher any longer!
I enjoyed this short book. I’m usually not a fan of short books, because they are always missing something. That is not true in this case. I thought Ms. Wells did a great job telling a story, tying up the loose ends, and coming to a perfect ending. I recommend you give the book a try.
