Forced into early retirement from his career as a SWAT officer for the city of Detroit, James Deacon knew that when he failed it would be a fall of epic proportions. He’s been living life by the tips of his fingers for over twenty years, and his new gig organizing a group of misfit military types into a functioning team—including his reluctant ex-fiancée—won’t return him to stable ground anytime soon.
Trevor Barrow has been on the move for the last seven years—hitting the road when relationships became too real or too much work. He’s home now, working in the hazardous world of bike messengers in the Motor City, and the only one of his eight siblings who knows he’s returned is his sister Cat. It’s not as if reconnecting with them matters anyway, because it’s likely he’ll be gone again soon.
Both men are lugging some heavy baggage, but when they chance upon each other in a dive bar it’s hard to deny their flaws are more like symbiotic quirks. Trevor’s backpedaling instincts and Deacon’s dance-dance party past may just be intersecting at a time when things are about to get explosive in Detroit.
REVIEW:
Oh man, I really, really loved this story. Damn, Deacon and Trav are right up there with my top favorite couples….Ty and Zane, Sam and Jory, Lucas and Noah, Crick and Deacon, Deacon and Trav!! I absolutely loved these men together. This story was perfection. It wasn’t overly angsty which wouldn’t have bothered me if it was but my point is the fact that it didn’t need to be. It was so well put together that the added drama wasn’t necessary. This is my first book by this author and I know it will not be my last.
Trevor Barrow (Trav) is the epitome of nomad. He lives his life on the move and never sees himself in one place for very long. He finds himself in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan just long enough to save up enough money to go back on the move. What he doesn’t anticipate is meeting the mysterious and captivating James Deacon at his sister’s bar.
James Deacon (Deacon) is recently out of a job. Forced into early retirement from the Detroit Police Department SWAT team, he suddenly has more time on his hands. Fortunately he’s offered a super secret security position with a local billionaire businessman. Out one night with his team member he is introduced to his bartender’s brother and he’s immediately captivated.
Trav and Deacon’s attraction is immediate and so hot. I loved that they didn’t just jump into bed together. It made for so much more heat and fire. I really loved them together.
This story is overflowing with secrets and mysterious. From the beginning we know there is this huge secret that Deacon is keeping from Trav and we don’t know what it is. Honestly, it made the story that much more enjoyable knowing there was something more, knowing it was so huge that Deacon was willing to sacrifice his relationship to keep it.
When all is said and down these two have to fight to keep the relationship they’ve been building and it made the story that much more!!
This is without a doubt a book that needs to be read by everyone. It was FANTASTIC!!!
