Blurb:

When Army veteran Slade stumbles upon an isolated cottage on a cold, dark night, the young man finds more than just the shelter he’s seeking.

Former club Dominant Callum is surprised to find a handsome stranger knocking at his door but invites him in despite his reservations. A nightmare reveals Slade’s deep-seated emotional issues, and Callum knows he needs to get creative if he’s going to help Slade leave the past behind.

Neither man is prepared for the feelings Slade’s introduction into the world of BDSM will unleash, and thirty-six hours will either be enough to bind them, or they will remain forever strangers in the night.

Review:

When we first meet Slade he’s in a bit of s situation. Alone, freezing and apparently in the middle of nowhere, he’s relieved when he finally spots a house and he’s desperate enough to knock on the door even though he’s scared.

To say Callum is surprised by his visitor is an understatement. At first suspicious, it soon becomes clear to him that Slade is a lost soul wandering with no real purpose except to escape the nightmares that plague him.

I liked this story…and I wanted to love it. The characters are intriguing and the premise caught my attention right from the start. I’ll admit I’m a sucker for stories about military men and the trauma they’re left with after they leave the service.

I fell hard for Slade. He’s had some terrible things happen to him and he quickly finds himself attracted to  Callum’s Dominant side, the strength and steadiness that radiates from him.

The writing is very good, I liked the picture the author painted of Callum’s home and the way the two men interact with each other.

But I have to say, this story deserved so much more time.

I get instant connections, and I understand that Slade is desperate for something to stabilize his life, but in the end, I have a hard time accepting that someone who was a soldier would be so quick to trust a stranger.

There was no real build-up, no anticipation, and it all just happens so quickly and it was kind of a disappointment for me. I wanted to see them circle around each other a bit more, see them work towards something this important.

The sex was hot, there’s no doubt about that. It was steaming hot but with a touch of sweetness that always seems to make things all the better. Slade is a man who just needs some help accepting who he is and he all but begs Callum to give it to him.

Callum is reluctant to let himself get attached to Slade because he’s sure that the younger man won’t stay and he doesn’t want to be hurt, not that he’d admit it.

I did love how Callum pulled Slade apart, piece by piece, using everything he had at his disposal before putting him back together a healthier, happier man.

So, I enjoyed the story and will be looking for other books by both authors because I’d love to see what they could do with a full length novel and more time to flesh out the parts that come before the sex.
