AUTHOR: Sarah Madison
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 164 pages
BLURB:
Special Agent John Flynn is everything Jerry Parker is not: dangerously handsome, coolly charismatic, and respected by his peers. Special Agent Parker is dedicated and meticulous, but his abrasive personality has given him a reputation for being difficult. When new information on a cold case appears, Parker is assigned to work with Flynn, and the sparks fly as their investigative styles clash. Contact with a strange artifact changes everything when it bestows unusual and unpredictable powers on Flynn… and the two men must learn to trust each other before a killer strikes again.
REVIEW:
Well, damn. I wasn’t expecting this at all. Like, AT ALL. I don’t even know if that was an HFN ending. Other than a MAJOR cliffhanger, I’m really not sure what kind of ending that really was. Let me just say that I have already bought the sequel to this book. At this point, I absolutely HAVE to know what the frick happens with the serial killer, these two men and their shaky start, the sixth sense element, and the other little mines that were scattered throughout this story. I find absolutely no fault in the writing as a whole, undoubtedly, this author is very talented. My issues are with the delivery. I wanted so much more smolder, angst, fighting attraction and at that, it was a disappointment.
FBI Agent Jerry Parker likes things a particular way. Comfortable in his routine he’s aware how he comes off to others. He’s good at what he does and he knows it and he’s not shy about telling anyone about it. His boss pulls him into his office to let him know he’s being reassigned to a popular serial murder case that has hit a stand still. He’s also informed that he is getting a new partner who will be arriving on a flight that very evening from D.C.
Special Agent John Flynn learns he’s being assigned to a new field office and a new partner, he finds himself on a plane across the country. When he arrives in San Francisco, he’s picked up by his new partner and it’s obvious he’s intrigued by, Jerry Parker. Not “attracted” intrigued more like he wants to pick and pick to see what makes him tick.
I think I would have been more enthralled with this connection if it were obvious from the onset. Well over halfway into the story I still was confused as to if John was even really into Jerry or he just liked to tease him. I guess that’s my biggest issue; there was no HUGE mind blowing spark.
Even with all that said, I did like this book and I will be reading the sequel because I have to know!!! There’s lots of mystery and intrigue. I think if readers like that more than angsty GFY love, then this book will really please those readers.

Really good and I loved the sequel but it kind of left readers with a cliffhanger….
