Never judge a sexy man by his cover.
Detective Beau Williams is hardworking, dedicated and professional. He enjoys the finer things in life, but with his heavy caseload that includes what Beau suspects is a new serial killer, he has no time to enjoy much of anything. What the tall redhead needs is someone to shake him up a little.
Investigative Technician Austin Kent never met a snarky joke he didn’t like—or a set of stairs that couldn’t trip him up. One night after a devastating episode at work, Austin sees something else he likes—the handsome detective he’s seen around the station whom he’s always wondered about. But after he makes a drunken fool of himself in front of Detective Williams, he’s sure there’s no hope.
Beau and Austin’s worlds collide when Austin is sent to pick up some evidence at the station. Amidst a myriad of twists and turns in the troubling serial killer-style murders of Vegas conventioneers, Austin and Beau discover that there’s more to the other than they’d originally thought. There might even be more they’d like to give—unless the killer has the final say.
Publisher’s Note: This book is best read in sequence as part of a series but can be read as a standalone.
REVIEW:
This is the third book in Knight’s Sin City Uniform series and features the sexy ginger haired detective, Beau (who we met in the second book in the series) and an equally sexy but slightly awkward Investigative Technician Austin. Beau and Austin’s first meeting wasn’t remotely romantic and Austin didn’t exactly make the greatest first impression. Beau thinks that Austin is a certain way and not his type at all so he dismissed him as a romantic interest at first only…he couldn’t get the man out of his mind. Beau thought that he needed a man of style, class, and all of that. This way of thinking was a residual effect of a failed past relationship. Of course, Fate has a way of sending you what you need and not what you want.
I liked these men together because they were so different. Beau is all strength, compassion, rugged beauty, intelligence and grace. Austin’s character is full of odd juxtapositions which makes him so fascinating. He’s geeky, clumsy, and socially awkward, yet…not. He’s beautiful, but not overly so, which makes him even more so. He’s shy, yet bold, sexually aggressive yet sexually passive. He’s confident one minute and displays low self esteem and puts himself down in the next. I had a heck of a time figuring him out but that was good as it kept me on my toes. The action and suspense factor of the story flowed along nicely and it didn’t drag or lag one bit. I understand that the murders were really a sort of backdrop to the development of the relationship between this two men. I also like how Knight incorporated the characters from the previous book into the storyline. This is a very nice series to get caught up in. She doesn’t leave you with any cliffhangers or unnecessarily drag out the storyline and that’s what I like about this series. The editing is really very good, the storyline and characters fully fleshed and well written. This is a nice, balanced meal; not too much but enough to fill you up until the next book. I truly enjoy this series as well as this author.
