Ross McCord will do anything to fulfill his mother’s dying wish…protect family above all else. He does his best, keeping their sheep herd healthy and strong as he watches over his crippled father, Achaius, and his pretty but dim sister, Skena. When Chieftain Goth notices Skena’s beauty, he demands to use her as a bride-price to complete an alliance with a neighboring clan. Attempting to keep his sister from being heartbroken, Ross embarks on a dangerous mission to earn a boon from Chieftain Goth. He heads north in search of a secret way for his chieftain’s warriors to attack the clan who took in Goth’s son, Ian. Much to Ross’s distress, he’s captured by the brawny redhead, Ziethman. He expects to be killed for trespassing, but Ziethman offers a much more pleasurable form of…interrogation. Experiencing sensations he’s never imagined, Ross finds himself craving the other man’s touch. When Ross learns that Ziethman is more than a man, and is in fact a dragon, can he accept the male’s differences and the help he offers, or will it be too much, sending him running back to his clan to fulfill his mission?
REVIEW: In the fifth book of Highland Dragons, For a Dragon’s Redemption, Ross McCord a sheep herder of a local clan, sets on a mission to free his sister from an arranged marriage. The mission is to look for the clan that took the chieftan’s son Ian, so that they could attack it in revenge. While traveling he unfortunately stumbles upon a red dragon named Ziethman although he is unaware of it at the time. Ziethman had watched the man climb up the side of the dragon territory and recognizes him as an asda, a human that could complete a mating bond with a dragon. He is intrigued and captures Ross to see how far he could get to know the human. That of course leads to him bonding Ross and before he could explain everything to him, they are attacked by younger dragons. Ross is frightened to see his new lover turn into a dragon and flees. He doesn’t get far and Zeithman returns him back to his clan to explain things. Unfortunately he has to tell the elder dragons that he bonded Ross without asking for permission and before he knows it he is an elder himself. Still when Ross finds out about the bonding process and how Zeithman will get into trouble for him, he leaves to head back into his village, unwilling to put Zeithman in danger. Once again Zeithman has to find him, and this time he will not let him go even if it means saving his family at the same time.
This was a short read. Ross was the honorable brother willing to help his sister find her happiness not knowing that he would find his own as well. He didn’t want to see her given away just to seal an alliance when she so clearly loved another man. Although the journey was obviously something new for the sheep herder, I think he finally gained something more to his life. He learned about dragons something he didn’t believe to exist and even found love. I remember Zeithman from the previous book with Paigon and Ciendon. He was always thought of as a shirker of duties, someone a bit vain, and not concerned with others. But when he meets Ross, he finds someone who will help him settle down. Most of the time when he went to do things it was because he was bored. He actually was a good worker with a bad reputation. But I think the relationship was a bit rushed in this book. There was no real buildup to anything. Zeithman sees him and then boom they are pretty much bonded. Sometimes that can be good but I missed the fight. Most of it was Zeithman chasing Ross down and bring him back. As usual the sex was hot between the two main characters. The main plot was good but I think it needed a bit more filling in. I still believe if you love the series you should read this and all the others. It could be read as a standalone but to understand all the character references you should read the rest of the series.
