Not even his mother’s funeral can convince self-proclaimed party boy Zach Johnson to tone down his snark or think about settling down. He is who he is, and he refuses to change for anyone. When straight-laced, compassionate Aaron Paulson claims he’s falling for him, Zach is certain Aaron sees him as another project, one more lost soul for the idealistic Aaron to save. But Zach doesn’t need to be fixed and he refuses to be with someone who sees him as broken. Patience is one of Aaron’s many virtues. He has waited years for a man who can share his heart and complete his life and he insists Zach is the one. Pride, fear, and old hurts wither in the wake of Aaron’s adoring loyalty, and as Zach re-evaluates his perceptions of love and family, he finds himself tempted to believe in the impossible: a happily-ever-after.
REVIEW:
“He Completes Me” is the first book in Cardeno C’s Home Series. I have been wanting to read this series for quite some time as I love Cardeno C’s books! I particularly love the way all of the characters are intertwined within every book in the series.
This first book is about Zach Johnson, a very hurt and angry young man whose mother emotionally abandoned him at a very early age because of her drinking and his father left him at a young age when he died. Zach doesn’t even have many memories of his older brother Dean because when their mother remarried within an incredibly short amount of time Dean left home to go to school which left Zach to face an abusive home life on his own. It is also about Aaron Paulson, a young man who just wants someone to love. Aaron has put his life on hold for various friends since he was in high school and now it is his turn to fall in love.
Zach and Aaron meet at Zach’s brothers’ place before their mothers’ funeral, Aaron is Dean and his wife’s best friend. The funeral goes as well as can be expected considering the fact that the entire extended family hates Zach because he’s gay and quite literally shoves it in everyone’s face! Zach can’t help but feel calm and peaceful the more time he spends with Aaron but he certainly doesn’t trust the feelings he is developing for Aaron. Meanwhile Aaron has fallen hard and fast for Zach but he has some incredibly difficult times just to get Zach to the point where he trusts anyone because of all of the emotional and physical abuse he endured whilst a child. Lucky for Zach, Dean has been waiting and trying to mend their relationship and it’s very heart-warming to read the rebuilding of their love and communication as brothers.
All up this is an incredibly feisty, tear inducing, at times heart rending love story about two young men who have earnt the right to love and live in peace. I absolutely recommend this book to every m/m romance reader out there!
