Well isn’t this sweet, Koschei growled. You’ve saved me the trouble of hunting you down, half-breed. Be content that you shall die together.

Hunter placed himself in front of Ari, his sharp fangs bare as a low feral rumble rose from him, his ears flattened against his head. Koschei advanced when two large canines attacked, holding their own against Koschei as he retaliated. Boone and Trip had come as well. Upon seeing their leader under attack, the members of Koschei’s pack joined the fight when an all-black half-breed as big as Trip and Boone with a scar down one side of his face unleashed hell on Koschei’s pack members. Ari didn’t know who the husky-wolf mix was, but he was grateful the guy was on their side. He showed no hesitation or remorse when descending on Koschei’s lackeys.

One of Koschei’s canines managed to slip away from the black half-breed and headed straight for Ari and Hunter, only to get knocked over by a large white wolf. Kristoff? They’d all come to help him?

Ari tried to push himself onto his paws, but his legs buckled. He was so weak. His body was attempting to heal itself, but his injuries were extensive. He did his best to push back the panic of feeling his body failing him. His lungs struggled for breath. Koschei may not have finished him, but he’d done plenty of damage.

You have to change. Hunter licked at Ari’s wounds and comforted him as Ari tried and tried again to get up on his paws. Pain seared through his body with each attempt.

Why? If he changed back to his human body now, he would be even more vulnerable.

Change. Hunter insisted. Trip can carry you to safety, give you time to heal. He’s bigger, and the only one strong enough to carry a human. We’ll need Mischa to stay here and fight.

Just as Hunter said the words, Trip rushed over. He nuzzled Ari’s face and licked his muzzle with a low whimper. Ari felt comfort in Trip’s care, but he couldn’t do what Hunter asked.

I won’t leave you.
