I used to teach people how to use Microsoft Excel. Way back when Excel 5 was king. I knew my stuff, in fact I still do. Although finding things in the new versions of Excel is hell because they moved it all over the damn place with this ribbon thing. ROFL. I would teach at all levels of Excel, and to all levels of people, from managers to directors, admin staff to random people off the street. I even lectured at college for one term. Like I said, I knew my stuff and I was good at Excel. Still, that didn’t stop me getting stage fright, but in the end I realised I knew enough to sound confident and after four years or so the nerves stopped.
So why am I telling you this? Because in July I am a featured speaker at the Euro Pride Con and I will be standing up in front of people and talking about me and my writing. Of course no one knows my writing practices as well as I do, so if I get asked something like – how do you go about creating a series? I can answer that. What made you want to write? I can answer that. You name it I can answer it. So why am I already nervous about something that isn’t even happening until July? (July 10-12th to be exact).
I wish I had the answer. And I know you were probably expecting me to explain the nerves but I can’t.
With nearly 80 published stories now, I tend to have *name slip*. So if someone says to me, you remember Joe and the scene with… I will have to admit that this particular Joe is someone I need to be reminded about. If someone says, why did you make *someone* do *something* I will have to admit to a need for a reminder. Unless it is one of the recent books.
Also I am English. And we’re not so hot at blowing our own trumpets. We like to self-deprecate, in fact it’s an English art form to not talk about ourselves like we could be experts in anything. We like to have success but to have other people acknowledge that success rather than talk about it ourselves.
But having said all of this, I am so excited for Munich. When the idea was first announced I was all over it like a rash. The idea of talking GLBTQ with my focus on MM, with a whole new audience in Mainland Europe, is so cool, and I can’t wait to meet new faces, and of course the old ones who I’ve met before!
And I’m so excited about visiting Munich, which on Google looks like a beautiful city. Marc assures me it is as beautiful in real life as it is in the pictures, and there is an awesome castle up in the mountains that I would love to see…
I hope to see you in Munich… please forgive me if you ask me what Joe did and I don’t recall… it will come to my full-to-bursting brain eventually, I promise.

I know it’s nerve-racking, but I also know you’ll do a fantastic job!
Wow nearly 80 published stories know wonder you can’t remember “Jo”! Wishing you lots of luck in Munich even though you don’t really need it! Have a great time.
I still can’t believe how many books you have RJ! It’s fantastic. I may never catch up with all of them at this rate. Meetings can be nerve racking, but I have no doubt that you will do great.
