REVIEW:
This is an incredibly short read. Ben O’Reilly is a fireman who is currently running for his life in a fire gone wild. He and his crew are driving through a fire, which they had been fighting for days, to a nearby creek to save their lives.
Along the way Ben notices a horse that is stuck along the fence line and jumps off to save it. As he doing that, the way to the fire truck is engorged with fire and he has to follow the horse for another route of safety. As he is running for his life quite literally now he runs across more animals trapped, saves them, and puts a scared kitten in his jacket. He runs again but as it looks like he isn’t going to make it he gets pulled into the air by a creature with talons around his neck and is thrust into a different world. A dragon rescues him. He sees the impossible and realizes that things that were once fairy tales actually exist.
Unfortunately as I said this a very short read. I believe it to be too short. It had such an interesting concept. Fire fighting dragons, wizards, shape shifters, firemen, witches; what’s not to love! Ben has the potential to be someone Id like a lot, since he seems to be quite sarcastic, and lovable. Darren the dragon would be someone I’d love to see develop and meet Ben head on. As it is we only get a brief glimpse of their attraction and the possibility of a relationship between the two. I have read a few others of the authors work and I was not disappointed. I am hoping that maybe in the future we will see a revamp and get a quite a few chapters added on. I can’t say I’d recommend this as something to read. You just get that hint of deliciousness before it’s gone. Kind of like unwrapping your favorite chocolate only to discover it’s not chocolate after all.

Thanks so much for your review, Tara. I wrote this short story as a fund-raiser for the Country Fire Service Foundation – all my royalties go to it to help injured South Australian firefighters and their families. But having said that I have had requests to write a full length story with these characters, so who knows in the near future Ben and Darren may re-appear and then watch the fire ignite! Thanks, again. Best wishes, Astrid.
