Beneath the tattoos and leather jacket, Finn is kind and sweet, but when he confesses a dark secret to Danny, it tests their fledgling bond. Danny digs deep to accept Finn, but before long, a terrifying trail of death threatens to tear them apart before they’ve even got started.
A monster is killing prostitutes on Danny’s patch, and when a dead girl turns up too close to home, Danny discovers a heartbreaking link between the girl and his bright new life with Finn, a life he’ll do anything to protect.
REVIEW:
I really liked the first book in the series, but I’ve got to say I LOVE the second book! I enjoyed every page, and was sorry to see it end. I do have one issue though. I never clued in that Jack and Will in this book were the same Jack and Will from “My Mate Jack” and honestly wouldn’t have if I hadn’t see another reviewer’s review while I was copying the book cover from Goodreads! They were fairly two-dimensional in this book and background characters. I would really like to have seen a little “how they got where they are now” on them, including why they don’t live together?
But I digress. Back to the story. When we meet Danny Jones, he is in a crowded bar watching a group called The Lamps perform. The Lamps are one of the most popular bands in Northern England and Danny has come to see them to blow off a little steam from his busy job as a Vice Squad Detective. But when Finn McGovern walks on stage, it is all over for Danny. He doesn’t notice a bloody thing except Finn after he sees him. Golden hair, a beard, tattoos, a scruffy leather jacket and tight black jeans. Can’t you just picture him in your mind?
After the show is over, the bar clears out and Danny is pretty much on his own. All that changes when Finn drops onto the barstool beside him and starts to chat him up. Danny is half Chinese and half Welsh, and knows he isn’t good enough for Finn. Finn has his own inner demons, and knows he probably isn’t good enough for Danny. Super happy to say that with enough alcohol, they end up going back to Finn’s place and getting to know each other a little better! 😉
Finn has some issues. He is super-hot, loveable and looking for the right man, but he also has a mental health issue that creeps up and makes itself very apparent to Danny. Once Finn confesses the truth to Danny, will Danny run like so many men before him?
Danny also has some issues. Young female prostitutes are being murdered on his watch. Three so far, and Danny is working endlessly to catch the serial killer. It leaves little time for Danny and Finn to get together, which then feeds into Finn’s feelings of not being good enough for Danny.
What happens though when the fourth murdered girl is from a lot closer to home, and the truth about the case and Danny’s involvement in trying to solve it comes out?
As I said at the top, I loved this book. It dealt with the mental health issues of Finn respectfully. I really enjoyed the increasing dynamic between the two men. Do we end up with a HEA? Well, I guess you’ll just have to read it and find out! I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next book in the series.
