REVIEW:
When the story opens, Aaron has just been dumped by his latest loser boyfriend the night before. He wakes up with a headache and not feeling well, but drags himself into work at the store that he manages. The store has a pharmacy enclosed, so I’m picturing something akin to Walgreens.
On the cameras in the office, he sees a stranger approaching the pharmacy and goes to investigate. It turns out that the stranger is Darren, a fill in pharmacist, called in to take a sick employee’s shift for the day.
Sparks fly instantly between the two, and after Aaron helps Darren finish up his pharmacy duties for the night, the two men go out to a late dinner at Aaron’s friend’s bar. They click and decide to do it again the following night for Boston Red Sox opening night.
The book was broken into chapters which tied to the innings in a baseball game, and when the guys settle down to watch the opening game, they come up with a game of their own. Kind of a strip poker, but based on plays.
It was an entertaining short read. I liked it for what it was, which I assume is an introduction to the next two books in the series. I’m hoping they are longer, as I could have used a lot more details. I dislike when I don’t get an image in my head of the characters and I never really did with this story. I also thought there would be more baseball in the story, based on the title, the blurb and the chapter names, etc. As I mentioned, this book is part of an upcoming series, and the next book is coming out in April.
