Brothers_Cover_1400x2100BLURB:

Alexander LaFon lives a nightmare, but he deals with it. Deals with the fact that his mother abandoned him as an infant, deals with the fact that his father is never home, and deals with the fact that his older brother, Jeremiah, tortures him.

He dreams of escaping his mobile-home prison and finding a normal life. Of breaking free of his agony, finding a woman to love, becoming a teacher.

But some horrors you can never outrun. There’s nowhere to hide. Some nightmares chase you in your sleep and steal your freedom like a brutal thief. Some brothers never give up and never answer why.

Note: This book contains graphic violence, non-consensual sex, child abuse, and animal cruelty.

Why Brothers LaFon Isn’t BDSM

Wikipedia defines BDSM as a variety of erotic practices involving dominance and submission, roleplaying, restraint, and other interpersonal dynamics. Although there is a huge range, including numerous subcultures, one widely adopted maxim throughout is Safe, Sane, and Consensual (SSC). SSC ensures all parties consent, and all play is conducted in a safe, sane way. Something I vehemently agree with, by the way!

I’m not sure if it’s possible for Brothers LaFon to be any further away from SSC. In fact, I intentionally didn’t use the term BDSM when tagging or talking about the book. Instead, I made every attempt to steer clear of the popular acronym and chose more accurate tags such as: FORCED SUBMISSION, THRILLER, NON-CON, INCEST (to name just a few) *wink*.

“In the back,” came the calm order.

Alex swallowed and let his gaze drop down to the table. Why? he asked himself. Why does he do this to me? Before he could stop himself, he looked back up, and a hollow, “Please, Miah, no,” escaped his trembling lips.

A blond eyebrow quirked as Miah walked toward the kitchen table. “You know that little slip is gonna cost you.”

Alex sat stone-still—immobile. He knew he should get up, knew he had no choice but to get up, but he couldn’t make his shaking body move.

Through clenched teeth, Miah ordered again, “In. The. Back.”

Alex gave a small, nervous nod and pushed his chair away from the small table. The metal legs sounded loud as they slid against the old linoleum floor.

As he rose, he made sure to look anywhere but into Miah’s eyes. His eyes were almost worse than whatever was coming; he knew they’d be cold and baneful. A rancor so inexplicably directed at him that he couldn’t stand to see it.”

Alex, one of the two man characters of Brothers LaFon, clearly has no say in his life or what happens to him—far, FAR from SSC. Indeed, Miah, from a very early age, stripped his brother, Alex, of all choice and freedom.

My debut novel, Grif’s Toy, has a heavy D/s tone to it, accompanied by a healthy dose of humiliation…and it certainly adhered to SSC. With Brothers LaFon, I wanted to explore something with more emphasis on a darker, grittier theme—and one that’s universes away from Safe, Sane, and Consensual.

If you’re interested in accompanying an unabashed psychopath and his sibling prey on a dark journey, then Brothers LaFon may be just the ticket. However, one reviewer offered some spot-on advice when she said, “…proceed with caution, pay attention to every tag and warning describing this story, strap yourself securely into your seat, and prepare to be jolted out of your comfort zone.”

Lastly, I’d simply like to reiterate Safe, Sane, and Consensual is the best way to play AND the only way I play!

Peace,

JLT =)

  1. I read Grif’s Toy, not my usual cup of tea but I really liked it. I’m waiting for the upcoming books in the series.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

    1. Serena S,

      I’m so glad you enjoyed Grif’s Toy…and your, “not my usual cup of tea,” comment makes your enjoyment just that much more special!

      Thanks so much for the comments.

      JLT =)

  2. I’ve actually read a lot of het non-con (I love Kitty Thomas’s books) and I really enjoyed Grif’s Toy, so I am looking forward to reading this when I am in the right frame of mind.

    1. colette,

      I really do enjoy dub-con/non-con (which I talk about in tomorrow’s post). I’m a self-admitted, proud deviant *giggles* and it’s always a pleasure to meet likeminded folks!

      If you end up spending time with Brothers LaFon, I sincerely hope you enjoy them!

      JLT =)

  3. I have been reading about your book on several blog posts. I love reading the comments from others. Makes me want to read more of your work.

  4. That’s some warning…”proceed with caution, pay attention to every tag and warning describing this story, strap yourself securely into your seat, and prepare to be jolted out of your comfort zone.” Sometimes we need to be pushed out of our comfort zones, but a good warning before we proceed is always good.

    1. I agree, JenCW! Some of my most favorite reads are the ones I had the most difficulty getting through. Antidote, by Jack L Pyke, nearly fucking killed me — but it’s by far one my favorite books EVER!

    1. sherry1969,

      It’s not what I describe as a ‘happy’ book, but I’m not sure it’s althogether said either. However, I have a pretty good idea of how the series ends – so, admittedly, that may be coloring my opinion of part one. I’ll let others correct me if my perception is…off. *smiles*

Please take a minute to leave a comment it is so appreciated !
