Tucker Reynolds is a rising star in country music. The people from his record label tell him he’s destined to be one of the greats—but only if he fits the “good ol’ boy” image country fans expect from him. The trouble is, that’s not the kind of man’s man Tucker really wants to be. Forced into an unsavory relationship with a record executive and frustrated by his regrettably platonic relationship with his best friend and guitarist, Mags Palmer, Tucker turns to kinky sex with male prostitutes for release. Things hit Tucker’s limit when one of Tucker’s bandmates, Jess Grayville, begins to suspect what’s going on, and puts himself in danger to protect Tucker. Desperate for a way out of his troubles, Tucker realizes only honesty, love, and a true song can save himself and the man who stands by him.
REVIEW:
Oh my word, this story was so painful. Heart wrenchingly painful but absolutely addicting at the same time, I was hooked from the first few pages. This is my second story from this author and I’m without a doubt a huge fan. I love her stories, she writes these damaged characters so perfectly. They burrow right into your heart and you bleed right along with them.
Tucker Reynolds has it all. He’s a hugely successful country singer in a band with his best friend, Mags. He has all the money he could possibly ever want people throw themselves at him everywhere he goes and has surpassed all the dreams he ever set for himself. But even with all the fame, fans, and money he’s unbelievably damaged inside. He’s gone through some unimaginable horrors to get to where he is and the memory of it all is taking its toll. He’s also deeply closeted knowing an openly gay country singer would never be accepted in his industry. He tries, unsuccessfully to find peace by sharing groupies with his best friend but that is only causing him more pain considering he’s harboring feelings for Mags but Mags is very straight. Recently he’s been opening up to another member of his band, his piano player Jess.
Jess Grayville harbor’s his own secrets. He’s been in love with Tucker since he joined the band but like Tucker he’s a closeted country musician. Not knowing whether or not Tucker is gay he tries to stay close to him without letting on to his feelings. He watches Tucker slowly unravel but is helpless to stop it.
Tucker tries hard to overcome his past abuse. But his abuser keeps tabs on him regularly always making sure Tucker knows he can pop up at anytime reinforcing the years of abuse he’s inflicted.
No two men deserve a happy ending more than these two. The atrocities that Tucker went through and Jess’s steadfast determination to save him made this story even more compelling. I loved Tucker’s relationship with Mags as well. At times it was confusing but their friendship was so complex something lines got blurred.
I really love this author. Her stories just keep getting better and better. Great book!!
