In 2013 I wrote a fun little novella called An Intrepid Trip to Love. It was written to a prompt submitted by a lovely reader for Love Has No Boundaries, the Goodreads M/M Romance group’s Don’t Read in the Closet writing event. At the time, I only had a handful stories out and they were all historical—with the exception Mending Noel, a sweet holiday story about Christmas elves at the North Pole.
Even before writing Mending Noel, I knew I’d be branching out into other genres of M/M Romance. I just hadn’t decided which I would write first. I’d already written an historical, Roses in the Devil’s Garden, for the previous Don’t Read in the Closet event and had a great time with it, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to write something completely new and different to me.
The prompt that caught my eye was for a shifter story about a dad who’d fulfilled his obligation to have a pup. It was just the two of them and they needed someone to kill the spiders infesting their house. I immediately saw the chance for a heartwarming story with humor and sweet moments. I’d never written a shifter story, and to be honest had read very few of them. I wanted a slight twist to my mates and bonding aspect. Like most of my stories tend to do, An Intrepid Trip to Love grew larger than I anticipated and has since become a series called A Little Bite of Love. The second book, Healing Hunter’s Heart, is due for release from Dreamspinner Press on April 24th.
For those unfamiliar with An Intrepid Trip to Love, here’s the blurb:
Tristan ‘Trip’ Hagan is a husky shifter who was born to be the Hagan Clan’s next Alpha, a position of honor and nobility, a position he never wanted and was all too happy to pass onto his younger brother. When it was discovered his brother couldn’t have pups, the responsibility of continuing the Hagan Alpha line fell back to Trip. Under the weight of the Hagan Council’s demand to fulfill his duty, Trip settled down and produced an heir, but after years of struggling to uphold his family’s traditions, Trip found the courage to do what no other Hagan Alpha had done in the history of the clan: he came out.
Five years later, and Trip is living a happy life with his cheeky pup and their own little makeshift family. True mates within canine shifter clans are very rare, but Trip has had one since he can remember. Despite losing his heart to Boone twenty years ago, Trip holds little hope of ever getting to bond with the sexy Enforcer, as it’s against clan laws for purebloods to bond with half-breeds. With the call from their feral halves to seal the bond growing stronger by the day, can Trip and Boone find a way to be together without losing everything?
An Intrepid Trip to Love brings you comedy, romance, mutant spiders, cheeky pups, sexy Enforcers, family drama, cheesy movie references, and sexy times. Healing Hunter’s Heart continues a few months where book 1 leaves off, only now it’s Hunter and Ari’s story and things are heating up. Although the novel can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading An Intrepid Trip to Love first, and book 1 is still free. You can download it in several formats here.
I’m very excited about continuing this series. It’s very different to the THIRDS world despite being shifters since it’s based on magic rather than science, but like the THIRDS, at the heart of the Little Bite of Love series is the characters. It’s about their struggles, their loves, their friends, and family. Here’s the blurb for Healing Hunter’s Heart:
Months after being forced to leave his lover and mate Ari Jannsen behind, Hunter Devin settles into his role as Enforcer for the newly formed Deagan Clan under the rule of his new Alpha and best friend Tristan ‘Trip’ Hagan. Along with Hunter’s brother Boone, their nephews, sister, and mother, Hunter finally has the family he’s always wanted, but without his little rebel Ari, his heart is incomplete.
The Hagan Clan is unable to accept the Deagan Clan’s betrayal for walking away and taking the clan’s pups with them. War looms. As both clans plan their attack, a greater enemy plots against them. But Hunter is determined to get his Ari back. Bonds are put to the test and unexpected alliances are made as Hunter and his clan set out to protect their own and end the spreading heartache.
On March 24th I’ll be having a cover reveal to share the gorgeous cover created by the fabulous L.C. Chase who does my THIRDS covers. Hope to see you there!
