TITLE: Burning Up
SERIES: Fitting In #3
AUTHOR: Silvia Violet
PUBLISHER: Silvia Violet Books
LENGTH: 148 pages
BLURB:
Bryce has been a firefighter for ten years, but when a horrific house fire leaves him reeling, he moves to a new city, hoping to shove those memories behind him. As he adjusts to his new station, Bryce keeps to himself until Matt and Toby, two hot young men in his unit, throw temptation in his path. Bryce knows better than to mess around with men he works with, especially two newbies who are in the closet. But after a difficult day, Matt and Toby offer him compassion and friendship, which slips so easily into sex Bryce finds the combination irresistible.
Matt and Toby want to expand their relationship to include a third, and they’ve set their sights on their sexy bear of a lieutenant. Their first night together is a scorcher, and, more than that, it feels right, to all of them. But since Bryce refuses to hide who he is, and dating men on his shift is against the rules, all three men are going to have to make some tough choices if they want to stay together.
REVIEW:
Yummm…. Three hot firefighters! What’s not to like about this story…
I liked the first two books in this series quite a bit, and I was happy to see Silvia Violet continuing it. I was concerned that it’s a different threesome though, I really like the three from the first books. So I went in to this with a bit of trepidation.
I mostly liked the book, but I didn’t like is much as the other two books, I’m sorry to say. This is all from Bryce’s perspective, and he whines waaaaay too much. He’s had some drama on a fire scene in Atlanta, and has transferred to Durham to get a fresh start. He’s still pretty traumatized from the incident in Atlanta, which we finally see as he tells Toby and Matt about it. I didn’t find the incident to be that dramatic though, not enough to justify his angst and pain. But I’m not a firefighter… I liked Bryce when he was being firm and commanding, but unfortunately he doesn’t do that nearly enough. He mostly whines about wanting to be with Matt and Toby, a committed couple, but doesn’t think he should. Because he shouldn’t. They all work together on the same team, it’s bad enough that Toby and Matt are together at work, but to add in a third is not a good thing. So Matt and Toby flirt and try to get Bryce to join them, Bryce resists. Bryce works at a bar with Mason, one of the threesome partners from the previous books, and gets advice from both him and Grey. They nearly push him in to a relationship with Matt and Toby, who are both ten years younger than Bryce. Toby is the more submissive of the pair, who balances out Bryce’s dominance. The sex between the three of them was quite good, I did like the physical connection between them. Although, some of Bryce’s dialogue was a bit corny. But overall I liked the sex scenes between them.
What I really wanted was for Bryce to be firmer, making a better decision about working with the three of them so close, get that all settled before joining them in a sexual relationship. There is a bit of drama with a fire, I wish there had been more of that. So I liked the characters, even with Bryce being so whiny, he’s a good guy, and the three of them are a good match. I would like to have seen inside Matt and Toby more, I don’t feel like we got to know them as well. We only know them through what Bryce learns. They have been together a long time and have some nice history we don’t get to see much of. Overall I liked the story, the characters, the sex and the writing. If you liked the first two Fitting In books, you’ll probably like this one. If you haven’t read them, you should, they are very enjoyable. This book could be read without reading the first two, the characters from those books come and go in this one, but I don’t think there is anything about them that you’d need to know to enjoy this book. So I did like it, I don’t want to be Negative Nelly, reading it was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
