REVIEW:
You know I really loved this book, a lot. I gravitate towards any books military related. So, when I read the blurb for this one I was immediately intrigued. It sounded so good and I am so happy to say that I wasn’t one bit disappointed.
I loved these two men together. I mean I truly LOVED them together. They were the perfect halves to each other’s whole. I’ve read some amazing books, books I’ve loved more than this one but this author was able to showcase “soul mates” so perfectly, and so right. I’m not sure anyone else has been able to fit the pieces so perfectly together before. Especially in such a short story…I was way more than satisfied!!
All Xander has ever known is the military. His fathers, fathers, father and his brothers, uncles, and cousins; all military. It’s his life; it’s what he was bred to do. He feels it in his bones and in his soul. So when he is the victim of an IED, rightfully he feels lost and alone. An amputee with no hopes of ever going back into the military he’s surprised and shocked when his best friend, Mackey comes in to nurse him back to health.
Mackey loves Army life and wants to make it a career but when his best friend and lover, Xander, gets hit by an IED he willingly alters his career path. Mackey is unprepared for how much anger Xander has in him during his recovery. But what I loved was how patient he was with him. Mackey let Xander rage, whenever he wanted and was always there for support, his love was the constant Xander needed.
These two men together were a beautiful/ugly thing. You wanted them to be together. You wanted them to be together mentally and physically healthy. The push and pull between these two was simply majestic. There’s nothing I can say that would capture the allure of these two men together. It was without a doubt a work of art.
This was so well put together, so well thought out, and utterly memorable in every way!
