AUTHOR: J.M. Snyder
PUBLISHER: JMS Books LLC
LENGTH: 10 pages
BLURB:
When Paul Jacoby opens the door to plumber Ethan Randolph, Paul’s memories and libido are instantly reawakened. Paul lusted after the captain of the basketball team in high school, but he was too shy to do anything about his attraction to Ethan back then. Can he pluck up the courage this time to make his yearnings for the hunky Ethan a reality, or will his pipes — as well as his dreams — remain blocked? Note: This story appears in the author’s anthology, Flashed!
REVIEW:
Paul has woken up to a plugged sink from the night before where his roommate has decided that he could dump their dinner because he was sure they had a garbage disposal, surprise they don’t. As Paul is thinking of killing his roommate, the devil calls, leaving a message. Just before Paul is able to answer the roommate hangs up but let’s Paul know that a plumber should be on his way. When the plumber shows up Paul is shocked to open the door to his high school crush Ethan. To Paul’s surprise Ethan actually remembers him from high school and is it Paul’s imagination or does it seem like Ethan is actually checking him out and maybe flirting with him?
To say this is a short story at only ten pages, minus the cover and insert page, to me would be an exaggeration, being called an essay I think sounds more accurate. The story is short and to the point, so to the point it felt like I was reading the script of a porno. Guy clogs sink and calls a plumper, plumber shows up to fix said sink, a little flirting and a little sink fixing and you can guess what comes next. It is stated above in the blurb that this story Pipe Dreams was in the authors anthology “Flashed!” and maybe if I read it as part of the anthology I wouldn’t have felt it wasn’t long enough, but as a standalone “book”, even as a short story, it is too short.
