BLURB:
Victor Bayne, the psychic half a PsyCop team, is a gay medium who’s more concerned with flying under the radar than in making waves.
He hooks up with handsome Jacob Marks, a non-psychic (or “Stiff”) from an adjacent precinct at his ex-partner’s retirement party, and it seems like his dubious luck has taken a turn for the better. But then a serial killer surfaces who can change his appearance to match any witness’ idea of the world’s hottest guy.
Solving murders is a snap when you can ask the victims whodunit, but this killer’s not leaving any spirits behind.

REVIEW:
I have been on an audiobook kick lately on my commute to work and I thought, when these books came bout, that this would be fun to listen to and to hear a story that I’ve heard so much about. I’m really glad that I did.
This intriguing novella of Victor Bayne and his incredible gift/curse of having extra sense and using them to help solve cases while working for the Chicago PD. Vic has been working this job for the last 12 years of his life and he exists in this drug-induced haze to keep his gift/curse into some kind of manageable existence. Victor is this wonderful character who is sarcastic, and looks at the world through this lens of pragmatism that I found at first kind of off, but as I got to know more about him, I could totally see his point of view.
Jacob Marks is this wonderful alpha character who is not only tough when need be, but he’s so into Victor and I really enjoyed watching him work his way through Victor’s defenses. He’s a great partner for Victor in the way that he is optimistic about life, even doing the police work that they do. Jacob is a big guy, who knows how to use his body to both intimidate and yet, for Victor…he uses that body to keep seduce.
Gomez Pugh did an AMAZING JOB narrating this book. I loved how he captured all of Victor’s quirks and his pragmatism with just his voice!! Gomez really gave so much thought and character to each voice that came up. I really fell into the story with the way he gave each character their own voice. That’s one of my pet peeves with audiobooks, the way some narrators just read the story and not bring the characters to life. Gomez blew these characters out of the water for me. I fell for not only Victor and Jacob but Lisa and Carolyn as well. Gomez did a great job narrating the female characters in this story that I didn’t feel the need to sigh and grumble when they were on screen.
I had not read the PsyCop Series before so this was a great opportunity to start a new series.
I was blown away by these great characters and the narrating style of Gomez Pugh, blew me away.
I know that some people aren’t big on audiobooks, but if you really want to “read” ie hear your favorite story told in a new, exciting way…audiobooks are the way to go.
