I’ve been going through an unsettled phase as an author recently. My love for writing gay characters and definitely romance is undiminished, but I really want to try my wings as a crime novelist and maybe some science fiction too. I was a huge scifi/fantasy/crime fan before I found fanfiction. I haunted the library on a regular basis to feed my addiction.
I realised recently I haven’t taken books out of library in eight years. The kids used to until they got addicted to the screen but not me. This week I renewed my library ticket, and my daughter and I raided the crime/scifi/graphic novel section. In my case, most of it is research. I haven’t read a crime book in so long I need to look at what’s out there.
I’ve also been reading the MM crime writers. I love being on Facebook. You only have to ask for recommendations and they comes flooding in. At some point soon I’ll make a post about my favourites. I loved Marshall Thornton’s series, Boystown, and I’ve just read John Inman’s Payback. I definitely want to read Dorien Grey’s Dick Hardesty series.
Back to my own crime novel. I’ve written the first chapter. And written. And rewritten. I’m hoping to get onto chapter two soon because I’m kind of sick of chapter one. It’s a very good chapter but I’m sure chapter two will be even better. This book might take a very long time to write.
On a completely different note, my brain is also working overtime on graphic novel for the Morning Report boys. It’s just an idea whirling around in my head. But what the hell… got to keep the juices flowing.
I had a new book out this week, The Next Call. Not a conventional romance but I love it.
Sue’s bio:
Sue Brown is owned by her dog and two children. When she isn’t following their orders, she can be found plotting at her laptop. Sue discovered M/M romance at the time she woke up to find two men kissing on her favourite television series. The kissing was hot and tender and Sue wanted to write about this men. She may be late to the party, but she’s made up for it since, writing fan fiction until she was brave enough to venture out into the world of original fiction.

Blurb:
Mark Grayson volunteers for an LGBT helpline, the same one that helped him through his teenage years. One day he takes a call from “Ricky,” a suicidal man being forced into a marriage he doesn’t want. For weeks Mark talks to Ricky and provides support, but he’s frustrated by the lack of information Ricky provides and the decisions he’s making. In the meantime, Mark starts a relationship with another volunteer. Then tragedy strikes and Mark takes time away from the helpline, but when he comes back, Ricky is waiting. Mark realizes Ricky is stronger than before and their relationship changes, but Mark isn’t sure what their future holds if their relationship is destined to be at the end of the phone.
I downloaded Next Call last night and it’s next on my reading list. I think I’m even more excited about your crime novel.
