Go ahead…hate me. Slaughter me against the wall. I never introduced myself as the goddamn hero. Even labeling me a pussy bad boy. I’m an imperious villain! A tyrant cut from the bone of the worst kind of monster. This is my story and I won’t change it for anyone in the world, but…
For him? The one who calls me Master… This is no forever fairy tale romance. This is RAW. This is ripping your heart out and trampling it till there’s nothing left but an angry bloody mess RAW. He was the one who saw through my cracks, who would suffer my pain, blood and tears, working to mend those still bleeding wounds on my soul. He stood through my violent storm, hiding the battle raging inside him, one I was too stupid to see, that was tearing apart the only man I would ever love.
It took almost losing him to see that, to understand, to comprehend what he truly was to me.
Mine.
My precious boy.
My beautiful Beo.
REVIEW:
I have absolutely no idea why it took me so long to read this book! I downloaded it a couple months back, and figured I’d get to it at some point. I hadn’t. I never knew what I was missing!
This is a very, very, dark read. Colt Maxus is a really unlikeable guy. The author did an excellent job at portraying a Master, who cares nothing for his long line of Subs. He uses them for his own ends and forgets them. When I say he is unlikeable, I mean he isn’t the sort of person anyone would want to know. He is cold, calculating, not afraid to take people out who get in his way, and he lives in the world of the great crime lords that rule our world outside of countries, governments, and other such social mores.
So why is he so taken with Beo Moon? While attending a society event cancer fundraiser, Colt sees Beo up on stage singing. It is like they have an instant connection. Colt doesn’t understand it because he has never felt anything for anyone. His father beat him his whole life and his mother started raping him when he was only eleven. He has never known “feelings”. His internal monster is his lack of humanity. He sees himself as apart from the rest of the world, and by his own choice.
Beo Moon has had a hard life. His mother died giving birth, and his father has not been in his life. He was raised in an orphanage, but turned out to be a really nice person who everyone loves. Beo is hiding a secret though. Beo also has a monster inside him. A monster that has just now raised its ugly head again. Beo is dying from Leukemia and only has a short time to live if his father isn’t found to give him a bone marrow transplant. The really shitty part? The man who raised Beo knows his father, but the father has refused Beo’s entire life to acknowledge the child he got as a mistake on a red haired woman who he never loved. And, even though he knows about Beo’s illness, he couldn’t care less.
There were some great supporting characters in this book. Almost all of them well fleshed out and standing on their own. My personal favorite is Breno “Hades” el Oscuro, the President of the Cerberus Motorcycle Club, who I believe will be the subject of the next book in the series!
I absolutely loved this book. It is full of angst, some really nasty characters and a lot of miscommunication. I think that Wulf did a fantastic job with it. It is very different from his other works. Give it a try. It is ONLY available as a free download from Goodreads. Get it today!
