Review:
I was tickled to grab this little catch-up starring two of my favorite military men, Gunny and Mac. If you haven’t read Beyond Duty, you really need to. Their story will make you smile.
We start out with a parental visit that will make you smile and maybe get a little teary-eyed and then we move on to the guys visiting a haunt that those of us who’ve read the Guards of Folsom series are familiar with.
I love seeing all these amazing characters in one place and seeing how things are going in their lives since we’ve last left them. As someone who’s a sucker for a HEA ending, I love knowing that my favorite couples are getting that.
It’s interesting as we watch through Gunny’s eyes as he comes to a greater understanding and acceptance of his submissive tendencies and through Mac’s as he revels in the love he and Gunny share, the pride as he shows off his lover, husband and sub to the world they’ve come to inhabit.
I don’t want to say too much as it’s a short story and I don’t want to give anything away, but I love the way the characters interact with each other in this story. The respect given to Mac and Gunny for their military service and the respect they show in turn for the other men involved in the lifestyle they lead.
I also want to comment about the fact that every time I read one of these stories, I learn a little more about a subject that has fascinated me for years and I appreciate that. The sex in this story is extremely hot but also loving and romantic where it needs to be.
My only issue with the story is the shortness of it. Now, I always want more of SJD Peterson’s writing so not wanting the story to end is a familiar feeling for me. However, I just found the ending to be a bit abrupt and it left me feeling a little cheated, to be honest.
Other than that, it’s a fantastic interlude in the lives of all these men and I will gladly take more of them in the future.
